Dear ................ [please fill in blank] Papyrus, Did whoever it was that decided who to "fix" the wall riding problem ever try to race at Darlington? The amount of time you have to spend in the wall for the "fix" to be activated is *waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay* too short. This goes for all tracks btw, but is especially apparent at Darlington because: A: It's a fast track B: The not much banking C: *everyone* will hit the wall atleast once D: It's had to get off the wall again E: You loose all momentum when you hit the wall, thus killing your speed and making it *extremely* easy for drivers behind to hit you because they are under full acceleration and approach you at a much higher speed. F: There's more or less only 1 line thru the turns and passing a car in either turn is virtually impossible - atleast in an online race. A 4-5 second period in the wall would be a much better solution - OR even better - a way for the SERVER to enable/disable/adjust this so called fix... Perhaps this can be fixed/included in the second patch? -- ed_ [who suspect that our 42car league race will be a nightmare at this track] -- Note! Return address is *not* my own - but the e-mail address to an e-mail mass-distribution company that have bothered me one time to many! Eat this - suckers!
I vote for enabling/disabling it. Since I only race offline I have absolutely no use for it and racing at Darlington, one of my favorite tracks, is next to impossible. Enable it for rogue servers, disable it for league servers and offline clients. Simple enough. I hope. It was a quick fix. I would like to see them really fix it by more closely simulating what would happen in real life if you were to ride the rail that way. The deacceleration should happen while you're actually "riding the rail" as opposed to afterwards. It's just a bit too fake now. -Tim "Ed Solheim" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:BJWM6.11371$[email hidden]...

If you are not on the trottle against the wall it would have no affect. Ease off the wall and you will be able to accelerate. The best fix would be to just stay off the wall. If this is true, that as soon as you hit the wall all you need to do is lift, then it is fine. I don't recall it working quite that well, however. I will go check again though and prepare to eat my words. Marc. "Mike Grandy" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:v20N6.2786$[email hidden]... Well this is a sim and how often do the real WC drivers ride the wall at Darlington? If they ride the wall for as long as it takes the game to kick in the deacceleration, they have already eaten up their tires and they will need to pit. Regardless, the fix to your problem is that as soon as you get in the wall, lift off the gas. The wall riding fix will only effect you if you have the gas down. If you lift off the gas it will not effect you. Personally to me I love the fix.. in my mind I should be doing everything possible to stay off that wall. Especially at Darlington.. it is part of the challenge of that track. It was even worse in N3. If you hit the wall in N3, you were pretty much stuck there. Why don't you just practice more and learn to stay off the wall. Works for me. Vintook "Ed Solheim" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:BJWM6.11371$[email hidden]...

I guess that's why I never noticed it... But the effect of scraping the wall for any length of time should be blown tires, jamming the car in there like a wedge, etc. If it was realistic, you wouldn't want to hit the wall!! You should only need the wall rider fix in arcade modes. Marc. Do you mean not on the gas before you hit the wall? Because lifting and/or lifting and shifting down does nothing after the wallrider "catch" kicks in...you are not going to be accelerating for a specified period of time and then you are released. I played around a bit and scraped the walls on purpose. The delay is a little ridiculous. I don't understand why the car cannot just be slowed down more when it scrapes the wall...as it would be in real life. I'll have to try coasting into the wall scraping it...I have a feeling the catch will kick in then, too. P.S. If you are legitimately trying to save the car from hitting the wall, you are often on the gas when you hit it. Marc.
