I've had my MSFF for some time - but it's time to retire it off (i.e. it goes on the 2nd machine) I want to buy an FF wheel that is... a) Obviously- GOOD. b) Win2K Compatable (not bothered over gameport OR usb) c) Reasonably Priced ( 100 +/- 20 ) d) Sturdy / Reliable e) Attractive f) Easy to remove from desk Any suggestions? Cheers Doug
I believe Thrustmaster is coming out with a new FF wheel shortly. Anyone have any info on that. I'm not sure if you are going to get much better at the present time - one thing the MSFF wheel always has over the others is that the pedals are pretty good too - although the new Actlabs pedals may make their product more attractive. Otherwise, really the step up is to the likes of the Hyperstimulator or Thomas Enterprise wheels, but these aren't force feedback, and beyond your price range anyway. Personally, I wonder whether your're going to get much mileage going for another brand force feed back wheel - unless yours is playing up. I've been using mine pretty regularly for must be 12-18 months with no problems - the optical reader rather than pots obviously improves longevity. got to suggest the ACT LAbs Force RS here a great wheel and within 24 hours of me getting one, i was within 0.5 sec of my GPL laptimes a week later i was smashjing personal bests the wheel i would think would meet your requirements, plus add that it has great upgradeability, its got to be one to think hard about the pedals do suck, but you can use the MSFF pedals i believe i use the Logi pedals with mine, and yeah they are sposed to be crap pedals, but i got used to them and can run consistent laptimes its all about what you get used to BTW i made the move from the Logi non FF wheel to the Act Labs FF wheel good luck in whatever you purchase Regards Warren Douglas Ellison <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:lKhO6.9899$[email hidden]...

The new TM FF Nascar wheel is the old Guillemot Ferrari FF wheel. Very good performance. The new TM Modena wheel is the old TM Nascar FF wheel. Performance is not so hot. -- Slot Tweaks & Reviews www.slottweak.com "Mike Grandy" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:F6iO6.11333$[email hidden]... I agree with slot. I've a Thrustmaster Ferrari FF Wheel (exactly the same as the Guillemot one) for over a year and it really is the best I've tried out. FF effects are really good. It's very robust and the peddles are very progressive, lots of buttons and levers too. -- Some Call Me Tim "GTX_SlotCar" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:60vO6.17772$9%[email hidden]... I got one too around xmas. Really loved it, I'm sure it improved my times, then the forces started shutting off on their own. I contacted Guillemot and they're replacing it under warrantee. I would go with the Act Labs Force RS. I bought one the other day, and I love it. It has a faux leather wheel, is very sturdy and easy to attach/detach, and VERY easy to install (only took about 5 minutes). It also uses USB -- in my case I just plug it into port at the back of my MS keyboard. The only problem for you is the price. I believe the current price is $139, but in my opinion is VERY worth the extra money. If you are willing to pay even more, even some time down the road, then get the shifter as well. It raises the bar of realism quite a bit. Go to www.act-labs.com to see it. Good Luck!
I just love my 'Guillemot aka TM Ferrari' Wheel!! And G. Deroys aka GTX_SlotCar site is just what you need for setting it up correctly too! jmho Thom_j. It's not FF, but my Thomas Super Wheel is great, and works well for me. The hand done craftmanship is hard to beat at $230 (not sure how many pounds that is..).. if you get the TSW2 with only a dual axis mod it's pretty cheap. They have some sort of FF pedals too, I believe. I would hesitate to buy anything else. Eric

I'll second that - I bought a TSW2 with dual axis and clutch about 2 years ago, and am extremely happy with it. I also bought a LWFF later on, but went back to the TSW because I missed the smoothness. The pedals on the TSW are also fantastic (especially compared to the LWFF!). Many people say the LWFF is the best force-feedback wheel, but I found that it had too much stiction when trying to make small adjustments. It may be that this can be overcome by changing the settings, but the logitech software didn't work properly with Windows 2000, so I couldn't alter that. One possible problem with the TSW is that it uses the standard gameport, so you will need a sound card with a very good gameport (preferably digital), or use the PDPI L4 card, which is *very* smooth (although this has quite dodgy drivers and probably won't work with new computers - it uses an ISA slot(!)).
You could try to find a 2nd hand LWFF and top this up with <aehm> ball bearings and 3rd party pedals (I personally like the retail pedals) JensSchumi On Tue, 22 May 2001 00:44:23 +0100, "Douglas Ellison" <[email hidden]> wrote:

<snip> Stiction goes totally with a ball bearing conversion. Price for a 2nd hand LWFF from ebay plus BB-kit should be about the same as for a new different brand wheel. Pedals are a special story. Some do like them, others don't. No idea about Windows 2000. I stick with Win98 due to my simracing activities.
