★ Landmark threadPapyrus releases unsupported GPL patch for 1.7GHz+ CPUs

Papyrus's Eric Busch announced an unsupported beta patch fixing CPU speed detection problems in Grand Prix Legends on 1.7GHz and faster machines, in six regional versions requiring the 1.2 patch. The community responded with an outpouring of thanks for supporting a three-year-old, poor-selling title, and Tom Faiano of Papyrus confirmed the patch adds no content and is not needed by those without problems. One user confirmed it worked.

Wow! Never hought I'd see more patches for GPL. 3 years old and they still support it! Way to go Papy! -- ed_ -- Note! Wow, great (and fast) work. I really wasn't expecting anyone to support a 3 year old title (especially one which didn't really sell particularly well). Wow! I'm really impressed with Papy's willingness to please their customers! Developing a patch for a game that never sold very much, almost 3 years after it's release.... That's simply amazing. Thank you Eric and all at Papyrus. GPL might have been a flop sales wise (or so they say) Partly because of bad marketing at the time. But as a marketingtool on it's own it's living beyond expectations. Hans van Dam
This doesn't surprise me about Papyrus. They've always been an excellent gaming company. One question, though. Would someone who runs a P4 1.3 have any reason to apply this patch? Thanks, Alanb

Hi there, although I "only" have an 1ghz Thunderbird I'm really happy that Papy released that fix, nearly 3 years after the release of GPL. Thank you, thank you, just unbelievable :-) Now I know, what Ymenard ment when he wrote that he is not worrying about the fast proz. bug in GPL :-))) I always get an warm feeling when I think about GPL, have it on my harddisc since the release here in Germany in October 98, found a lot of friends through it and had great fun at LAN-Meetings and at the real Nrburgring where the german GPL-Community mets at the Eifel-Klassik Race. I see myself racing GPL in another 3 years and still have fun with it. GPL is hard, frustrating at first but once you can master it it's also the greatest satisfaction you can get on a Computer. No such feeling as completing an 100 % Grand Prix at the Ring or Monaco, which I both did at LAN-Races here in Germany... If the game is currently working fine for you, then no, there is no reason whatsoever to apply this patch. There is no new content in the patch, only a fix for timing problems within GPL that manifest themselves on very fast processors (>1.7 Ghz). Tom/Papyrus Alan Bernardo wrote:
