I am running a small lan (4 PC's) behind a Linksys router on @Home cable. My buddy and I are trying to race over my lan on Sierra.com with Nascar 4. I could connect to a race, he could also connect to a race......as long as it wasn't the same race. Whenever he tried to connect to a race I was in....he got a timed out message. Also vice versa when he connected first. On my machine I have the router set wide open (DMZ) to inbound/outbound traffic. All assigned IP #'s on the local machines, not using a DHCP server. On his machine I tried forwarding a range of ports, port #'s taken from the Nascar 4 readme. I believe port forwarding is for hosting, I am only interested in connecting two clients to Sierra.com via my lan. We have our own unique Cd's and keys, we can login in to sierra with no problems. I believe it can be done with IP masquerading, is IP masquerading possible with my Linksys router? Are there any other solutions? Any help would be appreciated. TIA, SKnarr49
You'll need to set up each system to use a different net_server_port in N4's CORE.INI (one can keep the default, but the others will need unique ports). Thanks, I'll give that a try tonight. "Eric Busch" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:9egjcd$pa3$[email hidden]... > You'll need to set up each system to use a different net_server_port inN4's > CORE.INI (one can keep the default, but the others will need uniqueports).

I believe your problem lies in the fact that cable modems only allow use of 1 IP address (unless you pay for more) and issues the Linksys Router the IP address for the cable system your on. When you race in different servers, each server has a single IP, When you race in the same server the server has two computers trying to use the same IP address and will only process the the first IP it sees and rejects the rest. If you should find a way around this problem pleas let me know, I have a 5 system LAN and would like to race online with friends at my location. Eric's reply did the trick. I simply went in to the core.ini file in N4 on the second pc and changed the port number on the net_server_port line. Both machines are now able to logon and race in the same race.
