Hi,
This question I am asking was asked by someone else the other day and,
although he had about one reply, it wasn't the "right" answer. Let's see if
a few of you can try it again please. Okay, this is what's happening. I will
use the lap(s) I have just done a few mins ago in Rouen, but keep in mind
this happens on EVERY circuit in the sim! I do my outlap to start (Cooper I
used), then after TWO useless laps of say 2:20:xx (warming up the tyres,Huge
Grin!), I then proceed to do a 2:13:xx on lap 3, then I done a 2:11:85 on
lap 4 (Okay so far?). The problem is that on the lap where it gave me the
2:11:85 (Lap 3) I actually crashed and drove the rest of the lap a bit
slower! In other words I wrote it off and went around once more and pulled
into the pit's! The crazy thing is, when you watch the replay, the 2:11:85
had NO ERRORS!!!! and was a perfect lap (For me anyway!). The sim doesn't
appear to be giving me my lap times as they happen in "real time" so to
speak! A very strange problem I know. The lap times are genuine enough as
the replay's prove but, it is VERY annoying to do what you know to be a GOOD
lap and be shown a useless time for it! It tends to put you off as you can't
judge what has happened in real time. The answer someone gave to this BTW,
was that "because you crashed, you pushed harder/faster once you had
recovered and therefore were given a good lap for it). This can't be right
because I can assure you that as soon as I crashed out, I took it very easy
back around and over the finish line! Lap timings seem to be given out a lap
behind the "real" one if you can follow me! Anyway, sorry to ramble on but,
I really could use some thought's on this VERY ODD problem!

Max,
In 1967 the drivers and pit crews did not communicate with each other by
radio. When you go by the pits the lap board you see shows the result of
your *previous* lap, not the one you are currently running. The lap time
really is one lap behind. It has to be, your pit crew can't get your time
as you cross the start/finish line, write it down on the lap board, and then
hold it up fast enough for you to see as you go by <g>.

Nothing misterious or odd going on... the laptimes shown at the default
pitboard locations ('cept for the Ring after the V1.2 patch) lag 1 lap
behind. I.e. the laptime you are shown as you complete a lap is that of the
lap before. Just as they would have at the time (you're being timed by a
virtual guy with a stopwatch, not a timing computer).
The location of the pitboard can be moved (have to defer to others as to
how) and will show most recent lap time if moved some way beyond s/f. If it
bothers you much I suggest you look into that.
Jan.

(Looks at and inspects fingernails while whistling a tune!). Can we forget I
asked that? LMAO... I think it's time I went to bed and try again tomorrow
eh? I feel a bit silly right now!
Thanks anyway,

If it makes you feel any better you arn't the first to have been publicly
puzzled by this " phenomenon." Nor the second, or third or. . .

Just remember Mr Max....can we call you Mad since we are all friends here?
As my old teachers used to say:

I like the motto at Think Geek:
"There's no such thing as a stupid question, but there are an awful lot of
inquisitive idiots."

To get your current lap times to show up, go to the track.ini file, and look for
the following stanza:
[ pit_lane_0 ]
pit_board = 30.2 300.0 -100.0 100.0
Change whatever values are in the second position to 300.0 (only exception I
have is at Rouen, which is at 600.0 so it comes up just after the right hander
past the s/f line)

In the old days there was not computer timing as there is now. So as soon as
a lap was finished and timed, the guy would write the time on the board which
could not be viewed by the driver until the next time around. So you will
always see lap times that are a lap behind so to speak. If you want to see a
current time then go back to the pits as soon as you cross the finish line then
esc to the pit and hit event info and it will tell you. [email hidden]
