Grand Prix 4

Will there be a Grand Prix 4, and is GP3 worth buying?

A GPL player asked about the status of GP4 and whether GP3 was worth getting. Some recommended GP3 with patches and GPxPatch despite dated graphics, David G Fisher pushed F1RC, and others doubted GP4 would arrive soon given GP3's sales; Gregor Veble noted a GP3 2000 season update had just been announced again. A tangent clarified what ymenard meant by calling Crammond a 'compiler programmer'.

It was said last year when GP3 was released that GP4 would follow this year with its online capabilities and (hopefully ) improved physics . Is this still on and if so , has a release date been mentioned yet ? I like GPL but fancy trying a modern F1 sim for a change. Andrew BTW Is it worth getting GP3 for know?

GP3 is an excellent sim, if you can get past the graphics. It isn't a beginners sim though you must stick with it and learn the tracks..

> BTW Is it worth getting GP3 for know? I do not like GP3, there are many things about it I just do not like. I don't mind the graphics being dated somewhat. My 2 biggest complaints are the clutch (you have to engage the clutch or else the car will still be under power by the engine), the other is the joystick calibration (it's dos, and it doesn't see all my joystick functions, so it's impossible to use a button as the clutch). I played the demo of F1RC, and it seemed like if you even think about touching a curb your going to spin, and I might add, every spin seemed to be the same. Which to me is irritating, because if you watch a race, those guy's are all over the curbs. My favorite at the moment is F1CS2000, but it's far from perfect, it doesn't seem to have the "feel" of the other sims.

Well, whether you use Assembly or C/C++ you still use a compiler. Hence the term 'compiler programmer' doesn't really mean much, it just describes someone who doesn't use an interpreted language like Java. Yes, yes, yes! GP3 is superb. Since you used the word sim in your question, the EA and UBI games do not qualify. The racing is excellent with the patch, both physically and strategically. It has all the documented troubles; processor occupancy and lack of online and poor hardware usage on the graphics side but it is to date, the best driving sim available. AND While the graphics are not SBK in quality, I am quite satisfied with them. These statements are contrary to popular belief and, even after what I am about to say next, are bound to illicit negative responses, so... Go to Electronics Boutique or some other place where you can return games and get all three. DL the patches and spend a good two hours with each (on track) before bringing any back. If you are truly looking for a sim there are two titles that you will laugh at all the way back to the store. ...and then some. -- Mark Jeangerard [email hidden] Administrator GPVL F2 Division http://home.att.net/~m.jeangerard/GPVLF2 "Andrew Thomas" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:9etigd$fgb$[email hidden]... > It was said last year when GP3 was released that GP4 would follow this year > with its online capabilities and (hopefully ) improved physics . GP3 actually had poor sales on the scale of things. I suspect GP4 will not happen, likewise the season add-on pack from Micropose. Z. -- Please remove my_pants when replying by email.

See, this is the kind of reply I was talking about and exactly why you need to try all three. You won't learn anything from reading here. -- Mark Jeangerard [email hidden] Administrator GPVL F2 Division http://home.att.net/~m.jeangerard/GPVLF2
Hi Mark, I'll assume you were speaking to me as you replied to my post. I did try all three (at least the demo for F1RC), and they all simulate driving a modern F1 car well, and, with a little bit of tweaking of some physics parameters, can be brought to feel very close to each other (the largest difference being in the differential modelling, it seems). On another point, I learned more about racing sims and racing in general in this n.g. than anywhere else, and I also hope I contributed a little share of my knowledge for others to be able to do the same. I've also learned that people who take a product and declare all its rivals to 'not be sims' are not to be taken seriously in any discussion. I'll implicitly quote Greg Cisko here; if you're a regular follower, you'll know what I'm talking about. -Gregor mark jeangerard wrote:

He certainly won't learn much by your answer either. No offence, but the only thing 'superb' about GP3 is the dynamic weather. The rest is somewhere between ok and quite poor.
