License tests....Gran Turismo had em. if you wanted to race in the leagues you needed to pass a set of license tests. Im thinking all online racing sims should have them, make them a little long winded so te wrecker element just gets board, and stringent enough so the newbies learn how to drive. im the mean time, good luck avoiding trouble out of the tri oval. pez

Sorry, but when I buy a racing simulator I don't want to pass all those long and uninteresting license test to "prove" that I can race in multiplayer. I buy it for it's multi, and I darn don't want something to interfere with my possibility to race immediately the sim online out-of-the-box. imho. -- -- Franois Mnard <ymenard> -- May the Downforce be with you... -- http://www.ymenard.com/ -- This announcement is brought to you by the Shimato Dominguez Corporation - helping America into the New World...
The leagues kinda provide the licensing services...i.e. if you are a crapola driver, the league will NOT let you join. dave henrie "ymenard" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:96_Q6.9666$[email hidden]... > "Alexpez" <[email hidden]> wrote > > Im thinking all online racing sims should have them, make them a little > long
Getting around wreckers in online racing is a difficult problem, I dont see a solution :( What can you do? Driving test? It has to be easy, so everyone can pass it, otherwise lots of ppl will complain. No way to eliminate ppl crashing others on purpose. Maybe we can get rid of ppl who spin at Monza and continue driving, but into wrong direction... (But hey! It happend to me at the Ring and took me 3-4 turns to realize - that was when my PB there was down at 8:20 8-O League racing? Problem is: I want to jump into a race when I come home from work and I dont know WHEN that will be. So only a permanent league server with *lots* of ppl will do. Means: lots of administrative work (judging incidents, locking out people, daily password changes, ...) Crash counter? Some figure like crashs per miles comes to mind, maybe in case of an incident, the car with the lower count is invulnerable (but both counters are incremented) or something like that.. Problem is: arithmetic has to be more clever than the guys that *want* to crash others :) and where to store these counters? Clientside will get hacked, serverside means central bottleneck.. Calis PS: Best way for me is to use an older sim. No kids around just checking how much fun it is, and how much fun it is to wreck others. Not many newbies there not knowing their way around. Great replays, setups, tools, addons everywhere... No, I dont give away the name of this great sim, otherwise too many newbies and kids will join ;)

If you've played Flightsim 98 or later in a networked environment, it's quite interesting to see that players can act as "invidulators". Perhaps this should be an option in the next generation of on-line games... Jonathan

I think the only way to keep the spoilers out would require some sort of online software implementation that works in a similar way to a private club, but works for all servers who enable this and not just for individual leagues. I'm not sure how the software would need to go about doing this, but what I basically mean is that every ligitimate user will have a login name (this name can be specified by the nominee) and password that works on all servers that use this system and, in order to receive a login name and password, you need to have at least 2 current members put you forward. Seeing as there is a decent enough sized community of well-behaved racers found here on ras the initial club could be started from those here, as plenty of guys here race most sims, and then new members could then be added as time goes by. Obviously this would require a list to be maintained in someway that is available on the net by all servers that choose to use it which would require some dedication from one or two peoples part but, if someone who gets on the list turns out to be not suitable, then they can be summarily removed from the list which would invalidate their ability to log on. And also, to prevent current members from just nominating any old so-and-so a black mark could be put against the current members who nominated the guy in the first place and, if someone else that they put forward also turns out to be iffy, then some sort of punishment for the member could be initiated (a temporary ban for instance). I know this all sounds slighly complicated, and I'm not sure if it could be done for those titles that already exist, but if some of the forward thinking software writers could implement it during program creation then we could be on to a good-sized community of fair-minded racers who don't all want to just league race. Finally, if someone wants to have their server open to all then this should also still be available. So, how feasible is this? Hope this made sense. :) -- Peter Ives Remove ALL_STRESS before replying If you know what's good for you, don't listen to me GPLRank Joystick -50.63 Wheel -5.88
