20 clients?

Notable threadrFactor released, and its 20-car multiplayer limit

As rFactor became available for download, Jason Moyer complained about a 20-client multiplayer limit. Steve Whitty pointed out that a 'LessenRestrictions' setting removes it. Users discussed how often online races really exceed 20 cars, criticised the AI and graphics, and noted an F3 mod already under way.

It doesn't appear to be, though I recall it being said that it would be early this week, because last Friday's expected released didn't come. It's like, say nothing unless there's absolute certainty, or at least a 98% chance that what you say is going to happen will happen. What's the call on this? Alanb

I'm downloading it at 141 KB/S. That leaves me a little time for a trip to the grocery store to stock up on Dr Pepper and Doritos. Then i'll call in sick tomorrow morning.

from the readme The following option is found in the dedicated server configuration files, by default found at UserData/<your name>/Dedicated<RFM>.ini: - LessenRestrictions // allows you to remove the 20-vehicle limit as a multiplayer server at your own risk. or edit this line in your player folder in the multiplayer.ini Max MP Players="16" cheers steve

When you say "mirrors" do you mean places where also the game can be ordered (paid for) and then downloaded? I see nothing on the rFactor site. Can you supply some links? Thanks, Alanb

Sorry Alan, I was too busy playing rFactor! Glad to see you got sorted elsewhere - at the time I wasn't sure if the link was to be made (more) public. Initial impressions - I just love the open wheeler Cheers Tony

If I'm trying to gain points in NR2003, then most of the time I'll be in pits with 30+ players. You rank goes based on average points won, which in turn is based on the number of players you finish ahead of (and behind). The more racers in a race, the more points you can win (or lose). It's not that rare to have close to 40 players in a super speedway race during prime time on NR2003. However, this is not exactly a fair comparason. Run a road course event in NR2003, and 20 players would be quite rare. Usually these only involve 5 to 15 players.

Every Tuesday here in the PRS league. This season's average field is 40! Great fun and flawless :) Regards

It doesn't even run all that great on my P4 3.0ghs, 1gb ram, X800XL. Put more than ten cars on the track and turn up the video settings and on some tracks the frame rate is poor.

F3 mod is already well underway, and it looks "decent" :) Beers and cheers (uncle) Goy "When two or more people are gathered together in my name, they shall perform the Parrot Sketch..." --Our Lord John Cleese--

Yes, after writing this I found what looks to be well in development. I assume you are referring to this: http://www.stylelo.com/html/projects.htm Cheers Tony

I haven't seen an online race with more than 16 drivers in over two years. Maybe I'm just racing in extremely unpopular leagues. My experience is that about 50% (or about 15 people, whichever is higher) of registered league drivers make a regular appearance in races throughout a season, and this was irregardless of the league dynamic (how well everyone got along during a race). Even the wildly popular IGPS (using GPL, when it was new) rarely had more than 15 drivers. Right now,I'm only driving the aero mod in one league, and we're having 10-15 guys show up, and there's something like 30 registered drivers, some of whom have NEVER shown up for a race. That's my reality. Limited to 20 cars online? Harumph - I couldn't care less (but more would be better if the network code, server hardware, and server bandwidth can handle it).
GTR offline is a blast and has totally spoiled me. I never thought Id be an offline person again but after so many years of online bullshit I just want to get into a car and run some laps at my convenience against a good AI without all the political bullshit that goes on in every league. Or worse is all of the (LFS type) punks that roam the open servers running into each other caring less about any kind of actual racing. Simbin SAVE US!!!!!!!!!!!! Mitch . I think you have just been in the wrong leagues Mitch, there are some true gentlemen racers out there. The great thing about good AI is that you can tune it to give you just the right amount of challenge and for the human to be competitive. Racing on open servers it can be hard to find the right level. However, a good league that can attract people with similar viewpoints on levels of aggression, similar levels of speed and a true understanding of online racing in my view is the ultimate in sim racing. rFactor has an unfinished feeling to it. However, if there is the genuine capability to create an excellent league series out of it then for the well organised leagues this is all that will really matter. Cheers Tony
Finding 15 people that can agree on ANYTHING is nearly impossible add to that a sport that gives the ability to blatantly ruin another's fun without consequence and we have the mess that is online sim racing, league or other... > Please tell me ISI is kidding...please? It's probably enough for now, although you can probably patch some file to increase this. I'm already seeing a few "temp" cars. In my one and only online win, a 20 lap race at Toban in the Howtson, there were only 3 survivors by the end of the race.
20 isn't the limit. those temp cars are existing cars. just place holders until you go back to the pits and then your game will load the skins. its just to reduce the lag when someone joins cheers steve "Jeff Reid" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:8psSe.158638$E95.71076@fed1read01...
