Hi I have just upgraded my system from a 3dfx voodoo3 3000 to a Geoforce2 GTS. I am running GPL with the Opengl patch and it runs fine with a solid 36 FPS until I exit a race and then the screen drops down about 2/3 so the upped part is black ?? I am using the Nvidea 778 WHQL drivers on Win 98 se. Anyone got GPL to run succesufully with a GTS ? Any help will be appreciated Andy
Wow, you're a star! I spent hours the other night with NVMax trying to get anisotropic filtering to work with my GF2 in GPL. As you'll be able to guess I had no luck. Just off to try it with RivaTuner :) btw I do a little bit of D3D programming, and even the 6.50 drivers can do anisotropic filtering when a program requests it, so I'll try enabling it with the 6.50 drivers first. My own programs have an anisotropic filtering option, and it does work, and improves texture filtering clarity by a good 30%. This idea that it was only supported from 12.xx onwards is either a myth, or someone somewhere got misquoted. Anyway, thanks again :) "Kirk House" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:3b1be2fe$0$772$[email hidden]...

Don't thank me :) got the info from http://www.simracingmag.com I'm glad to hear anisotropic filtering works on the older drivers, the new ones seem a bit flakey. Didn't work with 6.50, but works a dream with 12.40 :) Fixed one of the main things wrong with the d3d patch, the blurry textures, particularly on the cars. I can imagine it would look even better with a GF3 since it supports two better kinds of anisotropic filtering as well. Please forgive the stupid question but I've been a 3dfx bigot for years. I will soon be taking delivery of a new PC, with a GF2 Ultra (Herc Prophet II). Can anybody give me the definitive answer to what the current drivers are? nvidia.com has Detonator3 version 6.50, but I hear of 7.x, 10.x, 12.x, etc. Has nVidia officially released anything newer than 6.50 or are they ALL beta and/or leaked drivers? Thanks! "Simon Brown" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:cnUS6.1575$[email hidden]...

6.50 are the current official drivers, anything higher than that is a leaked beta. Er... I didn't mean I'd got anisotropic filtering working with GPL with 6.50. I hadn't tried it when I posted. I've since tried it and it didn't work, so I'm using 12.40 now. Rather I meant anisotropic filtering works on my own d3d programs with 6.50. Is it worth making the switch to D3D? My GPL is running quite nicely in OpenGL on my GF2 GTS (looks nicer than I remember D3D on my previous TNT). What filtering does the OpenGL driver use? BTW Has anyone got GPL running with the Asus 3D glasses? I haven't got these working at all (I get funny flickering, but nothing like 3D) in any program. I know the glasses probably a bit of a gimmick right now, but I'd still like to give them a bit of a try. Just wondering what drivers you use? I had problems getting the OpenGL renderer to work right with GPL. On switching screen resolutions (like when coming back to the menus after driving) the menus would look all wrong, like they were being drawn in the wrong place, so the top half of the screen would be black. I'd really like to try OpenGL though if you know how to get it working. Thanks in advance, Simon. Simon, It doesnt work when FSAA is turned on. I would really like it to work as you can use FSAA with the opengl rast. through VROC. Ok, actually I don't use FSAA myself, I was just hoping to find a way of stopping the menus going wrong with OpenGL. "Ashley McConnell" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:9fit4g$h0i$[email hidden]...

I'm using the Nvidia Detonator drivers (7.something - I think 7.17 - I'm away from my home PC right now). I have an Asus V7700 Geforce2 GTS Deluxe. For the latest Geforce drivers, tweaks and fixes, visit http://www.geforcefaq.com/faq.html (set aside an evening or two!!!) Is the menu problem not related to refresh rate at all? Do you see any screen flicker? Most monitors base index their position settings by the refresh rate. Have you tried the 16/32 bit colour forcing options (not sure why these could be a problem)? I've tried GPL in both Direct3D and OpenGL and the OpenGL seems to look vastly superior, although I haven't tried to examine exactly why. I *think* it's a filtering or colour depth issue. D3D looks cartoonish in comparison. Maybe D3D will look as good with anisotropic filtering, though... Ok, thanks for that. The screen isn't flickering (different problem from the d3d flickering menus bug), it's just that the menus have sorta been moved down so they only occupy the bottom 3rd of the screen. The higher the res, the worse the problem. Actually in 640*480 the problem is gone completely, since there's no resolution switching (since the menus are also in 640*480). I'll try those 7.17 drivers and have a mess round with the OpenGL settings, thanks again. Simon. "Ryan Mitchley" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:3b1cfc23$0$220@proctor...

I don't suppose you run in 640*480 do you, because then you wouldn't ever see this problem. "Ryan Mitchley" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:3b1cfc23$0$220@proctor... > I'm using the Nvidia Detonator drivers (7.something - I think 7.17 - I'm ><snip> > > Ryan
No, the 7.17 drivers didn't make a difference :( I'd really like to get to the bottom of this though, if you don't mind answering a few questions- Can I ask which OS you have? Do you run 640*480? Are you using the beta2 OpenGL renderer? (there was a beta1 OpenGL renderer, but I don't have it anymore) The beta2 renderer zip file is 66.2 k. Do you use any video card tweaking utilities, such as NVMax or RivaTuner? Which version of GPL are you using? If you could answer any of those questions, it would be really helpful :) Thanks, Simon. Do you use NVMax or RivaTuner or anything similar to tweak your video card settings? "Simon Brown" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:oY7T6.5658$[email hidden]... > Ok, thanks for that.
