Complaints about earning cars and kamikaze AI in rFactor

A buyer was angry that rFactor made players earn and buy cars. Others pointed to the money-back guarantee and to the 'ISI_BABYFACTORY' cheat code. Many complained that the AI, especially the F1 cars in mixed-class races, drove into the player, and suggested running single-class fields. Debate continued over rFactor's fictional content and reliance on mods, and ISI's Joe (Scoob Droolins) pointed out that the Y key restarts a race.

having to earn cars, I've been racing for 20 years, and if I pay for a new sim, I want to be able to drive any car in it without having to go through all this buying and selling crap. Can't even drive the cars in that were in the demo. THIS SUCKS>>>

There's a 2 day money back guarantee. I strongly suggest you use it and spare us your whinging. You should have known about it before you bought the game. Anyway, there's a cheat code already to shut up whiners like yourself.

I added a readme.txt for myself so I'll remember what to do if I ever need to setup a new account. Being a F1C99-02 fan (I feel the need for speed), I liked the forumla car the best so far. Didn't take too long before I was running sub 1:15's at the Toban GP track.

max out the Howston! its a great car to drive. at joesville, apply anything you know about nascar setups to it. cheers steve

Sub 1:10's now, best lap is a 1:09.2. Still the AI at 100% are doing 1:07's so I have a ways to go. There's a couple of corners that the AI seem to be able to take one gear taller than me.
Yep that's the way it works in real life too, anybody with enough money can jump right in at the top level without any training wheel series experience. Just ask Tim Allen and Jason Preistley. ;)

I have no big problem with the advancement system. But when you need good results to advance and an idiotic F1 car runs square into the back of you (when you are right over to one side of the track) at a speed differential of about 100mph - well, that's just FUCKED! LOL There looks like there's a good game in there - said the same thing about CPR though. Someone needs to introduce some of these fucking idiots to the concept of the chain being as strong as the weakest link. I'm quietly optimistic about rFactor but this issue is just fuckingwell annoying! It's very disappointing to see a sim released with a glaring weakness like that. And at days end I start getting CTDs. Im going to bed..................................................... To be continued...............................................

Did you know that you can select which cars can be used by the AI? It fixes the speed differential problem by removing the formula cars. If people spent half as much effort doing a little research than they did complaining, the world would be a beautiful place.
I hate when people dont comprehend what they read then come back with a smart ass reply... Changing to a single class of cars doesnt fix the root issue my friend. If you had read his initial post you would have noticed he said that even pulling nearly off the track they still nail him (us) instead of making a clean pass..... In other words blind/deaf/dumb.... RFactor offers mixed class racing but the AI is incapable of reacting to a human on the track regardless whether a mix class race or not. Mix class just makes it worse is all. I started running F1 only 10 min after I installed the game and the AI is still HORRIBLE by any standard. I start on the back of the grid and determined to avoid ANY contact. Regardless how careful I am moments after I pass the 2nd to last car he punts me. Then to top it off you have to exit the race and go through race setup all over again... Rinse, Repeat... hehe sorry for top posting:) has anyone let the credits scroll though when leaving the game. I think you'll notice some top notch editors in there. Have you tried setting the AI to 50% and the aggression to 25%? It seems to work for people on RSC.

well, if you got real world tracks and cars released with the game, you would've had to pay more for the game. you'll still get the real world tracks, free of charge. just will have to wait for them. shit. everyone wants everything right here, right now. how long did you have to wait for gpl tracks. how long for n2k2 and n2k3 tracks. how long before add on tracks for gtr. you've got Lime Rock within 24 hours. yes, everything is about money. its how the world runs. but I know I'd rather wait and get a free track done well, than a track I paid for done badly. :) cheers steve "ymenard" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:snQRe.8790$[email hidden]...

No actually I really like the way they handled some stuff, but it feels much more like a serious version of Gran Turismo than a venture into seriousness like GTR. Well, there are 9 road courses (some reverse) for the OW series - only 2 shy of GPL. And a few ovals - a SS and a short oval. Still, it would be nice to have a few more RCs from ISI.

LOL owned I've only done twice I think. :) only to get people to check the credits, and to see which people are working to help the devs and the sim community. cheers steve
Or to see who we can yell at for letting so much slip through the cracks of the beta ;) What the heck were you guys doing letting em ship this with this horrible AI and terrible interface? Spent way too much time on the credits thats for sure hehe. The AI spend most of their time trying to block me WHENEVER I try to make a pass. So much so they will wreck themselves trying a stupid blocking maneuver. Then if you cant get enough distance between you and him he'll punt ya from behind at the next corner... Really sad, I had such high hopes. Looks like Im going to be a GTL person... After seeing RFactor I can fully appreciate what Simbin has done. Hell GTR is better than RFactor and GTL is beyond GTR. Mitch, I've really not seen this in rFactor racing with all the same spec trainers. Admittedly this is with limited experience but at 100% ability and 100% aggression they seemed just fine, albeit a tad slow at Toban short and either I am slow learning the other tracks but they seem a tad fast there... I started a race in an F1 against the trainers. Everytime I try to pass them, even on a straight, they turn into my way. Like a fucking crashdummy race... 5 min. ago I got rear ended on the finish line in a Howston by another Howston. This is fucking bullshit...did they forget to link the AI library into the exe, or what? BTW, AI aggr. is at 15% and AI strength is at 80%. They jump on me like bozos and drive like having 2 engines and supersticky tires. Well, at least, it's very nice just hot lapping. l8er ronny

Have you tried a race of just Trainers at Toban Short (either all school or all advanced to match your car). My experience with these has been ok so far whereas the other cars (especially mixed) seem far more erratic.

I just did, and that seems okay. But if one of the sim's main features is mixed class racing, the AI coder should make sure not to create kamikaze drivers... Damn, I already loaded the refund page, but the joy of driving the cars made me close it again. So I'm just hoping for a patch to tame the bastards... ;) l8er ronny
I haven't tried the trainers yet, but the AI at 100% in the F1 cars are qualifying in the high 1:06's -> low 1:07 range, which I can't do yet (my best so far is 1:08.2 with aids on, 1:09.6 with all aids off). I've seen a few online get low 1:07's during qualify, but so far no 1:06's.

Like a lot of work went into the Trainers and they added the Formula because they felt it should be there. In y view the trainers (lets call them F3s cos Trainers sounds crap) are what sets rFactor apart from the other sims right now.
Ive set the aggression the full spectrum 0-100 and it makes zero difference in how they drive that I can see. Ive run F1 (the worst) Howson not as bad and the other one I cant recall, the fast coupe and each exhibits similar erratic driving in the race. Ive only run Toban and Mills though. Other than my first run after install I havent run the trainers but I have tried in actual races each with annoyingly similar results. As bad a reception GTR received here I now realize its all about politics and zero about a great sim.... SAD! Activist lefty pinkos have taken over RAS... > The F1s seem a bit arcade for me in rFactor. F1's on a small track are going to seem that way in real life. Here's a video of a real F1 doing a fast lap at Spa, a 4 mile track in about 1:45: http://jeffareid.net/cgi-bin/spaf1.wmv and F1C99-02 RH2004 mod's version of it (unlike the real thing I'm using manual shift in this 7 speed Ferrari): http://jeffareid.net/cgi-bin/f1cspa.wmv rFactors formula car at Toban (dual view video): http://jeffareid.net/cgi-bin/rfrf1tgp.wmv This is arcade: http://jeffareid.net/cgi-bin/nfsu2sx.wmv
