World Sports Cars E3 movie impresses
A 39MB video of World Sports Cars at Brands Hatch, shot off a monitor at E3, was shared. Viewers were impressed by the track detail, cars such as a Panoz and a Group C Mercedes, and apparent time-of-day lighting, though some thought the cars looked slow and noted the lack of sound, skidmarks or damage; it turned Andre Warringa into a WSC believer.

To bad it's videotaped off a monitor so it does flicker quite badly.

You're not alone- I'd heard the same thing about Empire not showing for E3.
Glad to see the video, though. :-)

But I was really hoping to see in-car footage. Even so, all I can say
is.... breath taking! Looks like I'll need to start saving for that Gf3
and new monitor sooner rather than later!

Oh sure, when I first opened it up and started playing it I thought it might
turn out to be a bit of alright, but then turned disapointed. I wanted to
see the McLaren on the menu screen run.

What I found really cool was that it appears that you can race the
tracks at various times, from morning (see the fog still hanging
around) then evening ( lighting looks like the sun setting)
The first shot looks like the NSX is racing during mid day, the second
shot with the Mclaren looks like morning with the fog, the third shot
(don't know the car) looks like evening with sun setting.

The second car is a WSC Panoz, the third is a GTP Mazda that won LeMans.

Is it just me or does it look like the cars are moving pretty slow?
I am sure you will get a better feeling inside the car, but from the replay
(TV) view, they look like they are driving slow.

And don't the cars often look like they're driving slow when you watch them

I didn't have this feeling Cliff.. to me the speed seemed very
natural, and I found the movie VERY impressive.
I wasn't too impressed with the screenshots released a couple of weeks
ago, but this movie turned me too into a WSC believer.. :)
I had problems with the feeling of speed in Nascar 4 and had a
discussion here about it. From then on I started to focus more on the
feeling of speed in a real car. And yes, if you only look to the
objects outside and eliminate the feeling of speed you have because of
the movement you make, it DOES look very slow..
Feeling of speed is very hard to simulate on a computer I think. Maybe
things have to move a tad faster on a pc to give the same sense of
speed as we have in real life..
Andre
I think it might be to do with peripheral vision, perhaps this is why F355
with 3 screens feels much more intense than the 1 screen version in the
arcade.

The cars are moving slow, that's for sure. But that has more to do with the
testdriver than with the sense of speed in WSC, in my opinion. You can clearly
see at some points that the person who drove the cars was not pushing them at
all.

GT3 looks tip top, but with a max of only 6 cars (and no incar view)
it better look good!!!
Yup I noticed the redraw in the background as well (way in the
background) since its far behind the car it did'nt bother me much,
what was even more bothersome (atleast to me) was the clipping of the
car shadow into the pavement.
But alas I realize what we are seeing is an unfinished product.
GT3 blows GPL out of the universe in the visual department, (this all
men know) but when it comes to simulating real world physics GT3 is
just a dumb blonde !! LOL
You must ask yourself, do you want short term or long term
gratification? Sure GT3 looks good but will you be playing it in 3
years?
The best sim to ever come out on a console was Ferrari F355 on the
DreamCast, eye popping graphics with GPL physics, the arcade version
of this game with 3 monitors is amazing, if you haven' played this sim
yet,, check it out !!!
Though once complete I firmly believe that WSC will rival GT3 in the
graphics department and have better AI and of course there is no need
to discuss physics ;-)

Did F355 for Dreamcast have a cockpit view, or a hood view?
(I like both)
I hate bumpercam, which is why I don't like the GTurismo games.

but they don't compare to how WSC is looking. I've never seen so much
modelling of track side objects, hills, trees, fences etc. The view of the
back of the pit buildings from the straight behind them is awesome to see.
Also looks like they've modelled every little bump on the track surface.
The quality of the textures is also looking a notch above everything else
I've seen. For instance, the way the grass joins the track. The grass
doesn't stop, it wears thin as it nears the track edge. Little touches like
this, which are everywhere in the video, add that little bit extra to visual
realism.
The cars look gorgeous, and they certainly move how they should. Can't wait
to see this baby running on my own PC :)
