I'm not too into the comings and goings of CART and IRL games licensing so sorry if this is one of those eternally asked questions. Why didn't Papy every release a followup to ICR2? Did EA et al get the licences and prevent them from doing it. If so, its a great shame 'cos I'd love to play an up to date CART game with the graphics of GPL. Did any of the CART games that came out after ICR2 compare to it in sim status or were they all too arcadey. James

Trusrs85 said it all but here is the history lesson. ICR2 was made by papyrus. I assume it sold well. Nascar 2 then was made and I assume it sold MUCH MUCH better. Nascar 50th anniversary pak was sold. the Busch add-on. CART Racing was released this was a repackaged version of ICR2 with a fully patched 3d Rendition version included. Nascar 99 was a repackaging of N2/CTS/& Busch.(with a few tweeks that improved it over N2) GPL was released and did NOT sell very well. N3 added improved graphics, and better race strategy and a very good multiplayer component. But was still based on the N2 code...although heavily revised. N4 was released with work continuing at this time on a 2nd patch. At least one interview with a person connected to Papyrus...but not an employee...stated Papyrus would like to do another F1 product...guessing here as a late 70's early 80's era sim, but that Sierra is pushing for a Nascar 5 before another openwheel product gets released. My hunch...and I've been VERY wrong before about these things before, is that Papyrus will NOT do another Sim based on Cart or even IRL. I do beleive that one of the current products for F1 or Nascar will get a limited license from CART and some sort of commercial patch will be released...most likely in a similar strategy as the Half Life mod, Counterstrike.(which began as a free addon and is now a fully commercial product.) The arcade license for CART was sold to Midway something about a year or two ago...but through, I beleive, 2000; Papyrus had an active license for a CART sim that they did not pursue. Keep in mind these are only my guesses and I have NO inside information. Only little clues I've picked up here and there on the net. I could be so far wrong that a new CART title might already be on store shelves...but then again...save this message and see how close I really am when it all shakes out. dave henrie "james" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:9haupa$29f$[email hidden]...

Many good points here. My favorite post from 98 is however:

So it seems they actually had a good plan, but was probably dropped because of the economy problems with a not so selling GPL. Wasn't it around then that Papy was bought by Sierra also ? -- Olav K. Malmin remove .spam when replying

We'll probably never see an open wheel sim from Papy because they're too locked-in with the NASCAR gravy train. Quite a shame. >If so, its a great shame 'cos I'd love to play an up to date CART game with >the graphics of GPL. Did any of the CART games that came out after ICR2 >compare to it in sim status or were they all too arcadey. You have three choices these days: IRL Heat 2000 mod for NASCAR Heat (Final release available) (http://irlheat.bhmotorsports.com/) CART Heat mod for NASCAR Heat (Beta release available) (http://cartheat.bhmotorsports.com/) CART CS2K for F1 Championship Season 2000 (Beta release available) (http://www.champweb.net/cart2x.htm) Basically, the IRL and CART licensing folks also dropped the ball by allowing their licenses to be used exclusively by companies that essentially HAVEN'T uses the licenses (Infogrames for the IRL and Midway for CART). These exclusive license agreements have prevented other developers or publishers from picking up the license for use. The other main problem is that most developers and publishers don't see a market for an IRL or CART sim -- they just don't feel the audience is there, compared to the audience for F1 or NASCAR products. Thankfully, the third-party developers have this area covered. <G> -- JB

Too bad you can't set the cars up like a CART/IRL car. Somehow, adding wedge to loosen the car up just seemed odd last night with the IRL Patch. :) Nice add-on by the way, now I just have to figure out the AI levels that are competitive with me. -Pav
LOL I guess you got my left'handed comment Andre!! :-) I am the biggest offender of "Warped'ism" on here now!! hahaha Its all Lucifer & Dave H's fault!! They did it to me!!
