What West, Dekra and Orange sponsorships are
A poster asked what McLaren's sponsor West was; others explained it is a German cigarette brand, which is why it was replaced in countries banning tobacco advertising. Further questions identified Dekra as a German testing and safety organisation and Orange as a mobile phone company. Much of the thread was jokes about the British slang word for cigarettes.

Thanks, Dave. I wondered why McLaren could not 'promote" this sponsor in
France. Now I know!

Further on the subject of sponsorship ....
A couple of seasoms ago, DEKRA used to sponsor anything that moved.
I know its german but what is DEKRA and/or what does it do/sell?

I believe it's a cigarette company. Notice that the paint jobs are different in countries that
prohibit tobacco sponsorship. This week in France, the Mclaren cars carry "Mika" & " David" in place
of the West sponsorhip. Hope this helps.
I think it's the German road safety organisation.

Based on German words that are close to English I think you're right:

Dale.
Dekra in the UK is a timber building company, Dekra Germany, which could be
the parent company, seem to build things in German and a lot of it.
I think they sponsored Damon Hill in his F1 career.

I HATE to see a German come over here and say they're sucking on a fag. The
LEAST you'd get is a really hard stare like you're crazy!

Now, does France prohibit beer advertising also? I noticed that the
site of the Jags say "Best's" instead of "Beck's".

Aah ....
I have been asking people this question for at least three years now.
Perhaps this explains why Schumacher(M) was daubed with it a few years
ago. Didn't he have to do so much public service after some road offense?
It would explain alot.
Thanks
