Hey guys. I know this has been done over and over but ere goes again. My specs now are PII 350mhz, 64 MB RAM, 16MB voodoo Banshee, 6gig hards drive. With around and about 300 I want a good upgrade... For US$300 on one website I could get the following AMD Athlon 1.2Ghz, 128MB RAM, 20 gig hard drive, and a choice of either Radeon 32MB DDR or Gladiac GeForce2 GTS 32MB. A few questions: Which one of these graphics cards would be the better option? And does anyone know of sites offering parts for PC upgrades at good prices as I'd like to look around to see the best deal I can get. TIA!
Sounds pretty good to me. Either video card would be pretty good, but the DDR Radeon is faster than the GTS Geforce. Not that I have either, but that's what the reviewers say :) Main thing I would question is what mobo they are offering. Definitely the most vital component to get right!!! Go for an MSI, Iwill or Asus board IMO, maybe the Abit as well (although I've had troubles with them). Steer well clear of any no name brands. For the HDD, make certain you get a 7200rpm drive, the IBM 75GXP drives are the best. They're the same price as a 5400rpm, but a LOT faster :) Don't know any Pommie sites, but the best place to go to is the buyer's guide at Anandtech http://www.anandtech.com/guides/showdoc.html?i=1496&p=4 They have links to all the cheapest US sites, as well as collating all the latest prices. I would definitely steer clear of any mobo's not listed at Anandtech, as you will almost certainly have troubles with them.
