A wasted day off trying to improve GPL lap times

Greg lamented spending 12 hours on GPL for only small gains at Mexico and Mosport. Others shared similar frustrations with plateaus and joked about GPL addiction. Gary Stephenson recommended chasing a GPL Monsters Rank to build skill with all cars.

So here it is 12 hours into my day off, and I only managed to shave a sec off Mexico, 7/10ths at Mosport........(used GH's 85/45setup)...the whole point of this day was to get that nasty 9:11 Ring time to respectable levels....oh yes and Spa to 3:20...neither happened....if ever a day felt wasted, this would have to be it!! Im sure some of you understand, but I really thought that a day off, all to myself would set new lows, (timewise)....was I ever wrong! -- Greg31

Yeah, but it takes hours and hours... Look at it this way, you shaved off 12 hours all in one clip that you would have had to put in somewhere along the way. So maybe now all you have left is another 12. The point is you're always moving forward. Heh... At least that's what I keep telling myself! Oh...I gotta problem alright.... with Rings...... and I thought Spas were supposed to be relaxing? Well at least you guys dont make me feel too alone.....thanks...but I still feel like I wasted a day, I guess I am just at that damn plateau we all hear about...dont get me started on trying to get from a 130:42 to a 129:00 at Monza...or the Holy Grail of a 130:00 at Silverstone or...etc etc etc...man does my shfting hand hurt about now...so is this what "car"pal tunnel syndrome is all about? If I could shave a second off my mexico time and 7/10ths off my mosport time, I would be a VERY happy puppy. Time doesn't come easy for me anymore. And when I do find time, it is always a tenth of a second or maybe 2. But sometimes I get lucky and I get a breakthrough in my driving at a track and I can pick up maybe a half a second...but I havn't figured out how that happens and it hasn't happened to me for about 2 months now. Well, to paraphrase an old saying about golf.......... "A bad day (or at least a disappointing day) at GPL is still better than a good day at work." 8-) Right? Greg wrote:

not 12 steps..but merely two... go to vroc and wait for me to eventually show up...usually every 6 months or so i make it on...then and this is the most important step... STAY BEHIND ME FOR THE ENTIRE RACE !!! Using this method you will throw your computer out the highest window with all the force you can muster... dave henrie "Thom j." <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:dUu17.1156$[email hidden]...

Hey, I just took a few days off myself, and did nothing but drive GPL. I was intent on driving all the cars on all the tracks and getting a GPL Monsters Rank. I started off with the BRM and worked my way from slowest car to fastest car. (I avoided the Lotus, which is what most of my PB's were with.) When I got to the Eagle the times just started dropping. Granted, my handicap is pretty high, so I had alot of room for improvement. I went from a handicap of +49.09 to +32.74 in one weeks time. My biggest gain came at the Ring, where I managed to drop 12 seconds off my PB in the Eagle, and turned a 8:45. My previous best was a 8:57 in the Lotus, and I even managed to beat that with a 8:54 in the Honda and a 8:53 in the Cooper! Those were two cars I never drove at the Ring before. I used either the default set-ups with less gas, or Alison's set-ups. I've tried Huttu's set-ups, and although they go like a banshee in a straight line and corner real well, I just can't stop with them. I always go flying-off the road when I hit the brakes. Must just be me 'cause everyone else loves 'em. To each there own, eh! Get a Monsters Rank, drive the cars you hate! Hope that helps. Well its been 5 days straight for me...I SWORE 2 days ago I would do something "fun" and get away from "it"....didnt happen, its 1:00am here on Saturday nite...(the hell started Tuesday at 3:00pm)....my wrist is stuck in one place from shifting gears, my knees ache, and my head hurts from lack of breathing during those "laps of a lifetime"...man life would have been so much easier if I woulda stuck with left turns (ala N4) Ahhh...but it IS worth it, some people golf, some gamble, I am a GPL addict. And God..its only been a month since I got this thing! (so sue me, it took awhile to jump in)......"awhile = 3yrs" Greg31 +71.01.......and stuck there! I was just getting below 1:40 at Monza after one month for crying out loud. In fact, when I first got the game, there was no GPL Rank! I had to walk 14 miles in knee deep snow just to get to a computer ;-) OK, so I sound like my Granpa! Do the Monster thing! It will pay off. I know, I know, I sound like my Granpa...do this, do that, blah_blah_blah. Gary GPL F1 handicap:+33 GLP F2 handicap:+49 Monsters handicap:+492

I would have killed for a +71 after 1.5 years...<g> When the GPLRank came out, I had a +137.50, IIRC.
