Hi all, Recently upgraded my setup to a 1.2 ghz AMD Athlon on a Via KT133 based motherboard (Chaintech CT-7AJA0), 256mb RAm, V5 5500 64MB AGP and after a few problems getting everything up and running I thought I had things sorted out. However, in the last day or so I have twice had GPL freeze up on me and today N4 also had the same problem. In both cases the sim freezes with the speakers emitting a loud squealing \ whining noise at the same time. Anybody else experienced these same problems or have any suggestions for a fix. Regards PH
> Anybody else experienced these same problems or have any suggestions > for a fix. You;re running a very similar system to a buddy of mine, and his problems have been with his V5 card. he treid it with (oh man, i cant remember what) another card anyways, and it worked fine,...
Peter, I too was having probs with screen freezes on an AMD machine however I am running a GeForce 2 card. I know every says a reinstall however after many unsuccessful attempts I refomatted my HD and reinstalled everything. I feel it may have been the sequence that I reinstalled as a previous reformat was unsuccessful. I bought up the M/B up to date first with all drivers installed then Video, sound then wheel. It could be nothing but worth giving a go. Russ. It may be as simple as updating to the latest motherboard chipset drivers for your new motherboard. I swapped a PIII 700 and mobo out for an AMD 1.2 Ghz on Abit Kt7ARAID and after hooking everything up, Windows went through and installed all the mobo (system) drivers from Win98SE and I had all sorts of problems. I went to Viatech (mobo chipset maker) and downloaded their latest chipset/mobo drivers and installed. The mobo came with some drivers but were older than was available at their website. Upon unstalling the new drivers (Via 4n1 for me), everything was back fine and dandy. I think my main problem was with AGP to CPU bridge drivers, most of my problems were video related. Thanks for that, However, I dod update the drivers to the latest just last week as I also had some awful problems initially. I'll just have to see how it goes over the next few times I run the GPL \ N4 and hope that it turns out to have been a minor problem. Unfortunately a new vid card is not an option for me at the moment. Plus I do like the V5. PH On Sun, 08 Jul 2001 22:58:19 GMT, "Jason Hoehn" <[email hidden]> wrote:

Well, if things get too bad I suppose a re-install is the only option but this was all put together from scratch with a newly formatted HD last week so I am hoping that won't be neccesary. PH On Mon, 9 Jul 2001 13:12:52 +1000, "Russ" <[email hidden]> wrote:

In a later post in this thread you mentioned: "....this was all put together from scratch with a newly formatted HD last week so I am hoping that won't be neccesary." If this is a new system I assume you have not had it going long enough to establish any kind of track record on its general behavior. You have a VIA KT133 chipset. If you also have a SOUNDBLASTER LIVE then your troubles could possibly be explained here: http://viahardware.com/download/george/readme.htm If this sounds like you then you might try looking at the info here: http://www.viahardware.com/faq/kt7/kt7faq.htm This is for an ABIT KT7/KT7A series but these also have the VIA KT133 (a) chipsets so some of the fixes here may be workable on yours. The 4.32 4 in 1's are the ones I installed last week. PH On Tue, 10 Jul 2001 01:35:00 GMT, "Tom Pabst" <[email hidden]> wrote: >Which version of the VIA 4in1 drivers? > >TP >
OK many thanks, I do also have a SBLive so I'll check those out and see how things go for a few days. PH On Tue, 10 Jul 2001 01:09:05 -0400, "Joe L" <[email hidden]> wrote:
