Or am I just being stupid ?
Ok, I was running a Talladega race, pitted but missed the start of the
pitlane speedlimit (ie. I entered the pits way too fast <G>).
So the spotter told me I had to stay in the pitbox for a 15 second penalty,
ok fair enough I thought. So I waited for the counter to zero, hit button 2
to autochat and tried to leave the pits, but nothing. The engine spun but no
movement, zilch, I thought maybe I'd lost 1st gear so tried 2nd, 3rd and
4th, still nothing.
It was only a practice run, so I got one of the other racers ( it was a
private online race) to try and give me a push to get me on my way again.
but my car was just stuck, no movement at all.
So, is it a bug, or am I missing something obvious ?

This is fixed in the patch. But if you already have patched I have no
idea :)

Patched UK version, so I guess the fix didn't quite fix it ;)
