Bugbear posts new Rally Trophy screenshots

Bugbear 3D artist Ilari Lehtinen pointed to new in-game screenshots of the historic rally sim Rally Trophy. When a poster complained of unrealistically wide, smooth roads, Bugbear staff explained that camera field of view exaggerates width, that stage widths vary, and that off-road surfaces affect handling. They also confirmed cockpit views, varied weather and upcoming hands-on previews.

Automated summary.

Ho hum. Another rally game that thinks these events are held on 10 metre wide smooth dirt freeways, yet calls itself a "simulation". The graphics look pretty, though, if that's what you're really after. GMF "Ilari Lehtinen" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:9j9jdi$kaa$[email hidden]...

They can make them 100 meters wide, as far as I'm concerned -- IF they get the physics right, and I think the folks at Bugbear are going to do just that. They play GPL, they know what the benchmark is, and I have a feeling that (Historic) Rally Trophy may be THE hottest sim title we'll see this year. -- JB On Sat, 21 Jul 2001 01:28:38 GMT, "G M Fude" <[email hidden]> wrote:

Hmmm check out dejanews we had a discussion about that. It seems they are actually realistically modeled, but I'm still not 100% sure about that. -- -- Franois Mnard <ymenard> -- May the Downforce be with you... -- http://www.ymenard.com/ -- This announcement is brought to you by the Shimato Dominguez Corporation - helping America into the New World...
Damnit! *When* will I learn to hit that Reply Group instead of just Reply .. Again I sent my original answer directly via email. Bah! anyways, here goes again.. * Why '?' after the 'shots'? Ok, we've been accused of prerendering screenshots for PR purposes but nope, all shots are in-game. Anyways, yes, it's a Ford Lotus Cortina :) -Ilari "redTed" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:9jbjcp$n9957$[email hidden]... > > Ilari Lehtinen <[email hidden]> wrote in message > news:9j9jdi$kaa$[email hidden]... > > .. over athttp://www.simactu.com/articles/screenshots_contenu.php3?id=109 > > > > Enjoy :-) > > If that is a Lotus Cortina in some of those shots(?) then it's aguaranteed > purchase. > >
Mmmm... Now this is something I think I've answered before.. :) Camera FOV's make the roads easily look wider then they are. Sure, at some places and tracks the road is wide, but on the other hand, on some other places and other stages they can get pretty narrow. If it was carwidth-narrow all the way in the game, everyone would complain it's too hard and if it's all the way too wide, people will complain about making it too easy. Now we're just giving everyone an equal chance to complain about both ;) -Ilari "G M Fude" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:aV467.9069$[email hidden]...

In the 1000 Lakes rally they are fairly wide and fairly smooth. Can't tell if the screenshots are taken from that event though. Anyhow, I'd rather they compromise on the width and smoothness of the roads to aid playability than fudge the cars. Next week there will be several hands-on previews appearing in the net, so you all have a chance of reading some unbiased views.. Even though the preview is pre-alpha code and doesn't have all the features in it, it gives a good feel on the game. -Ilari "Jan Verschueren" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > In the 1000 Lakes rally they are fairly wide and fairly smooth. And as a Finn I remember very well our public country roads were appx. 6-8 metres wide at sixties and even at seventies. And rallys were held there. Mainly flat out. (remember usual top speeds were about 185 kph) Tapani
Does the grass or going off road effect the car inaccurately? Like some previous rally sims/gamulations? Charlie "Olav K. Fair enough. Thanks for correcting me, guys, I'm humbled! :) In Australia, we are usually removing shrubbery (bracken ferns and gum leaves, mostly) from the mirrors and door handles after a rally stage. :( GMF "Tapani Kaijanmki" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:9jc5ho$o59$[email hidden]... > "Ilari Lehtinen" <[email hidden]> kirjoitti viestiss > news:9jbkdd$1bv$[email hidden]... > > Camera FOV's make the roads easily look wider then they are. Hi Charlie, (and all the others) Going off the road to grass won't always turn your speed down, but it's sure very slippery... :) There's also few other surfaces/platforms next to road as water, ditch, mud etc.. I'm sure these will slow you down a big time... ;) -Sami Rih 3D-Artist (car modeler) Email: [email hidden] "Charlie Buscher" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:M7j67.3140$[email hidden]...

There were at least 3 cockpit shots that I saw Dave. "Dave Henrie" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:T7177.398162$[email hidden]...

There is different weather conditions in the game. I don't remember if the press preview (pre-alpha) included stages w/ different weather or not. -Ilari Bugbear Entertainment "Tim Miser" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...
