Over here down under in Oz we get the Cart series but no IRL. What the hell is the difference anyway? Which way did the good ol Indycar boys go? Cart (or as I prefer to call them "Crash Test Dummies")? I miss Papys Indycar but it looks so old fashioned graphically now. Is there any new Indycar type games in the pipeline? Judging by the lack of spectatators at the Cart races is it a dying formula? Chicago this week was very poorly supported crowd wise.
CART = 900hp+ turbocharged cars on ovals, road courses, and street circuits IRL = 650hp NA, rev-limited cars on ovals only, with the Indy 500 as their "signature" event... However, a few CART teams run the Indy 500 as a one-off and sweep all the top positions, with the top IRL team car a lap down. ;) In the states, CART's oval attendance sucks, but their road/street courses draw very well (170,000+ at Toronto for the weekend) IRL's oval attendance looks decent because they keep going into new markets and catch the racefans' dollars with the curiosity factor However, both series' TV ratings are in the toilet There are patches for the game NASCAR heat to convert it to CART heat and IRL heat respectively (however, being a NASCAR game its 95% ovals). There is also a beta patch out now with the full version out soon? for F12000 and F1cs2000 that converts it to CART 2000, containing all new tracks and such... Screenies look great! Warlock! Oh... Almost forgot... CART!!!! CART!!!! CART!!!! CART!!!! ;) Stuart Nicholson wrote:

No CART sim anywhere, or even in the pipelines, mores the pity. If you want IRL, you can get it on Foxtel, but it's a wank show really, no talent involved. Stick with CART on ch. 10 (or Optusvision I believe), heaps better racing. Plus you get real tracks :D The next few races should be heaps better than Chicago me thinks. There are three patches now...one for Cart Heat...Looks Gorgeous...one for F1cs2k...with several American tracks in the process of being converted for it's use, and a patch for Nascar 3 which uses the original ICR2 graphics on N3's program. The advantage of the last effort is you can run all of the old ICR2 tracks. They are in the process of converting the original ICR2 body/paint schemes over to the Reynard body that was sculpted a year or so ago...There are leagues starting up for both the Nascar Heat patch...when it goes final and the ICR2/N3 patch. http://cirrus.spaceports.com/~dtech/n3/ic4n3/ic4n3.htm I went digging for the other links and can't find them right now...anyone else have url's for Cart Heat and World Series 2001?(f1cs2k) dave henrie "Stuart Nicholson" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > Over here down under in Oz we get the Cart series but no IRL. Oh? Canceled Rio - lack of interest. Canceled Texas - chicken/lack of testing Canceled Portland half way - raining and Paul Tracy crashed Indy 500 - Sarah Fisher (20 year old girl) out qualifies MA Indy 500 - "Swept" field because no front running IRL car left due to crashes. (no threat - easy win) TMS - suing CART (who won't give the money back for the non-race) And, if that wasn't enough, you obviously didn't see the IRL race at Richmond. What a race on a 3/4 mile oval. No CART guys in sight. Might get dizzy! Fred TRUSRS85 wrote: > CART is the real Indycar/Champcar series > > IRL is an amateur league/retirement league/training league

And at least they race in the rain. >Indy 500 - Sarah Fisher (20 year old girl) out qualifies MA >Indy 500 - "Swept" field because no front running IRL car left due to >crashes. (no threat - easy win) Several of the IRL drivers couldn't keep it off the walls. That didn't just happen. It's called talent. The guys who swept the top-5 are in those rides because they are fast and THEY GET THE JOB DONE. Have you ever seen Helio Castro-Neves crash like Scott Sharp? In fact I can't recall the last time Helio crashed in a race! >TMS - suing CART (who won't give the money back for the non-race) Why should CART give money back for a postponed race? There was never an official cancellation. >And, if that wasn't enough, you obviously didn't see the IRL race at >Richmond. What a race on a 3/4 mile oval. No CART guys in sight. Might >get dizzy! Round and round they go. You can keep your artificial racing. And your 4-mile slipstream (tm) (tm of the IRL) And just to finish off-- there's 10 laps left in an IRL race. But a hot dog wrapper has appeared in turn 4. Better wave the yellow! BAHAHAHAHAHA

Maybe they were just better at avoidance? ;-) >And, if that wasn't enough, you obviously didn't see the IRL race at >Richmond. What a race on a 3/4 mile oval. No CART guys in sight. Might >get dizzy! Ok, the CART cars are basically TOO FAST to run safely at a track like that. I don't see that as being a selling point for the IRL as being 'better', because they're slower. Just to be clear, I like watching both series. I just don't agree with these particular arguments... Better wave the yellow! > BAHAHAHAHAHA You know damn well it doesn't really work that way! They only throw the yellow for debris when Sam Hornish is about to lap the field at 10% of the total race distance, or when he's about to lap Al Unser, Jr., "I've already tried that Derrick! I've adjusted the sway bars and put the weight jackers all the way to the rear and it's still all over the track... I just don't know what to do! Wah-ha wahhhhhh.... *sniff*" - Sarah Fisher during the last IRL race, bringing her car into the pits BEFORE she wrecked this time, on, I'm guessing, about lap 25. Warlock!
Last year: One lead change for the Mexican GP (and that was during pit stops) - how exciting! Next year: IRL at Michigan 500 IRL at Nazareth Guess CART would rather race in Germany (furthering their image as F1 wannabees). And if the CART non-race wasn't canceled at TMS, how come I got my refund in the mail from TMS? R
Personally I dont see how people compare theses two series. The type of racing is vastly different. CART is mainly a road racing series with a few ovals thrown in for color. IRL is just ovals. And the Indy 500 was NOT a proof of dominance by CART drivers over IRL drivers. Even in their own series you had two of the top teams plus Michael (whos run Indy MANY times before). And as to the tons of crashes...I seem to remember 1992 looking something like a demolition derby, and those were CART teams. I guess I'm just sick of the whole CART vs IRL fued. Its been played out by the media and really, in essence, doesnt exist anymore among the teams or drivers. Both series went their own direction and formed their own identity. I didnt hear people complaining when F5000 was in existance back in the 70s, essentially forming a second open wheel series in America. I'm for one glad we have 2 distinctly different open wheel series in America (granted CART is more international). So basically what I'm saying is, drop the fued and start watching the races. And the IRL race will not be a 500 miler. I expect more people to be at the tracks for the IRL races than at the CART races this year because CART's promotional dep't. is non-existant. One of the things the IRL does better than CART... PROMOTE! > > > Guess CART would rather race in Germany (furthering their image as F1 wannabees). F1 wannabees on an oval in Germany?!? They are trying to do what's right to the fans, which in turn makes CART look like the bad guy in this situation (which, essentially they are). CART would still like to race there in some way or another, but Gossage has pretty much turned his back on CART. Until he talks to them, and until a rescheduled race comes about (unlikely) or a cancellation is announced, it is officially postponed.

Sure there was a bit of luck, but since there is no such thing as luck, it came down to preparedness. The CART teams hired the best mechanics, strategists, managers, drivers... I think it showed. For the most part with unfamiliar equipment. Mike was clueless until Hornish (a step above the IRL competition, I think) gave mike his setup. Then he outperformed Sam. Not necessarily w/ raw speed, but Mike was definitely driving within his means, where Sam obviously drove on the razor's edge. Sam ended up a lap down, Mike didn't.
