Anyone in the greater Charlotte area who might be interested in some racing leagues please send an email to me to get on a list We will have a T1 up soon and will use latency maximums under 80+ to insure warp free racing This will require broadbandwidth Thanks

What an elitest attitude. Go ahead and set it to 50 or 60 while you're at it, you're still gonna have warp. We set ours to <500 and have never had a problem. Just wait until you are mid-season and your points leader's ISP is having a problem that particular night and he can't ping below say 200. His connection would be fine for a race too, but no, he won't be able to get in...glad I'm not in your boat. Sorry your having that sort of trouble but i dont consider it elitest (sp) since cable/dsl is pretty common now We have never pinged over 80 to the local T1s Remember that its the requirement to join the host, obviously it will fluctuate during the race We just feel N4 is not suitable for analog modems thats all We tested our cable modems joining several T1s from different parts of the country, and pinged 110s and as soon as we got nose to tail there was warping If i am pinging to a server in the 200s i might as well not join it, because i will warp But not the case when its under 100 But mostly just we're looking for local guys who may want to meet each other on a regular basis; people who share an equal desire for warp free racing SimRacer <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:1ryb7.77776$[email hidden]... > What an elitest attitude. By who's standard? What does that mean - 30%? 50%? 80%? The reason I ask is that it's not available everywhere equally. I live in Detroit, a city of about a million people, give or take... Unfortunately, the cable providers haven't seen fit to provide service for the majority of people. Oh, in the suburbs(read:more money), companies exist. But I guess the residents of the MAJOR CITY don't rate. As recently as 1 1/2 months ago, I checked availability with 5-7 ISPs. None of them had service to the 5 or 6 zipcodes I checked in the city itself. Funny thing - ALL of them provided service to the 3 suburb zipcodes I checked... So from a strict 'availability'(and definition) standpoint, I'd have to say it's elitist... And no, that's not a slap against you... My brother in ohio wont be able to race until cable or dsl come to his area and even then it may not be enough unless he can upgrade a DSL Again, the primary focus is for us to create a local environment :)

Tim, not slamming you but if you wanted an elite cable only, Charlotte connection, then why advertise on an Internationaly accessible newsgroup? I don't have broadband where I live (South of Raleigh, NC BTW) but I have a dedicated server in my office and race on it from my 56k home dialup just fine. I run my entire league from that dialup-to-server connection and our only warp has come from a single DSL racer.(We have 5 guys on dialup BTW) Don't fool yourself, less than 15% of the entire US has access to broadband, and even then you will still have warp, I've seen it at LAN events. If everyone in NC has broadband, then why is there a new Rural Internet Access Authority working under the Rural Development office trying to get everyone in NC at least a 256k copper line dialup service by the end of '03? http://www.wral.com/news/863119/index.html You should have simply said "No AOL or MSN dialups" as my Earthlink connection is fine even when I race, even on left coast late night racing. I stand by my point and thanks Eldred for the support, these "High Speed" only groups really irk me thinking that "everyone" has access to broadband or that all cable connects will be warp free. So much for trying to hook up with other North Carolinians for some local racing... I just reread your notice and you said you warp at pings above 200, then you certainly have a problem. I have raced on servers where my piddiliy, subserviant 56k could only muster a 270-300 ping and I had no warp. Don't judge everyones connection by your own problems. People routinely race relatively warp free at up to .400 pings, just ask the overseas folks that run N4. I think connection quality has a lot more to do with warp than ping. I know when I ping 200 with ISDN, it is still relatively warp free, but pinging 200 (yeah right) with my shite analog, the game is like a bad acid trip. Stuff like Roger Wilco plays utter havoc with my ping *AND* quality. Sometimes the ISP has a bad hair day, and even though my ping is 80, the quality is way in the red. I think you should give folks a chance to try out in a practice race, and SEE if they have a solid connection, instead of cutting out probably 2/3 of the good racers who might be interested in your league just because they live many router-hops away. And, just because the game seems OK to you, doesn't mean your car isn't warping all over the place on everyone else's screen. Or so I have been told. A common trick with the Flight Sim boys was to SCREAM into the microphone using Roger Wilco...this would so kill the framerate, that the screamer could escape from even a guy in his Six oclock position. > Sometimes the ISP has a bad hair day, and even though my ping is 80, > the quality is way in the red. I have a cable modem, great pings usually, but depending on net conditions, I have been booted by N3 & N4 for having a bad connection. I'm in two leagues...the Friday night one...even tho it is late West Coast time, is awful. The Sunday Morning events are smooth as glass. dave henrie
