I keep falling down in chicanes. Even tho I can set fastest lap against
the lower level competiton, I fall down too much to compete with the AI. I
frequently have problems on tracks with Chicanes and lowside(leaning and
turning so much that I lean my bike flat onto the track) trying to exit
them. Or even worse in a double chicane I lowside between the two sets of
turns. If I slow WAY down I can tippy toe though...But I'm curious to why I
am doing this.
Are lowsides the results of too much speed through a corner or a poor line
entering/exiting the corner? I try and sim-ride with all the aids off, but
I have put the <= => rider assist function back on because without it I
fall down even more. Even Donnington was giving me fits..trying to get
around those two 180 degree turns just before the end of the lap. I turn,
turn lean, leansome more to exit the corner and splat...down I go...
any turn-Doctors out there?

(btw since I'm a FAT AMERICAN LAYPERSON I'll understand if you don't
respond.)
speed in corners equals to centrifugal force which will keep your bike from
falling...
come in more on the outside and try to let the bike roll "free" like if you
were in neutral gear in the apex of the corner, thus allowing for the max
centrifugal force...then get gradually back on the throttle, remember than
your wheel diameter is not the same when the bike is right and leaned...and
so is the acceleration of the bike...

Proper technique, i.e. one steering
application per turn, opening the throttle early and "rolling" it on
progressively do help, but it remains too hard to go around slow turns using
the current control methods, IMO.
I wouldn't know how to improve the situation (a "proper" FF bike controller
would be a start, I guess), I can only attest GP500 struck a happier
compromise in this respect.
All the same, SBK2001 is an amazing piece of software. Graphically stunning,
great track representation, competent AI considering the antics the player
ends up doing and pretty decent physics make it a must have (and must have
played) for any serious simmer. Again: IMO.

I had the same problem, Dave, until I realised I was driving/steering the
bike in the same way that I would drive a car....get used to turning
earlier, a lot earlier, and anticipating the swivel (on the second part of
the chicane). Both should be done, as I say, completely differently to a
car.
HTH!

bikes don't work like cars. lowsides are the result of the front
sliding out. if the front slides out, you're not feeding enough
throttle. on a real bike, that is.
'tis very sad, but GP500 is still the only bike-sim that even comes
close to reality. that said, GP500 _might_ have been a lot closer if
the bikes didn't have such insame amounts of grip. hard to tell.

thing I noticed was I was holding onto the first turn-in way to long. so
that by the time I needed to swing back the other way, I was already in
trouble. He sent me some setups and a replay of his laps...I'll try and
check those out this weekend and let ya all know how it went...
Thanks again everyone for your help...

Howdy,
As some of you have read a while back... I have found that when using my
wheel half calibrated (in win) I am able to control the bike in SBK'01 much
more realistically. I can carry equal to or higher than speeds when at LESS
than full lean, as per a real motorcycle. When at less than full lean you
will have way more throttle input as far as the the tires to the ground are
concerned while still being able to maintain a high turn rate. Not that I'm
proud of it but in the real world I've experienced low sides and loss of the
front (ow), severe tank slappers, and a few times i've experienced "2 wheel
drift" :). Anyhow in SBK'01 even at half calib. there is not enough feel
but any more and the bike tends to become spastic (for me). In this "sim"
very small amounts of steering input are required when at speed or leaned
over while compensating for gain/loss of traction both at the front and
rear.
I'm kinda rambling... sorry.
Hows the P3-1ghz Thom?

The P3 1Ghz is just great Charlie, especially with my new 22" monitor :)
I don't know how you do it with the wheel. I tired and just cant. When I
have my FF j/s setup properly it seems just fine for me! As Dave H just
posted I sent replays but I didn't have the chance to run SBK2001since
my 1ghz and monitor upgrade. Did I ever have a shocker'..lol I had too
re'adjust my style quite a bit but after abour 4laps I was almost fair...:)
Thanx for asking about my upgrade Charlie.. Cheers -Thom_j.
