Another sub one minute thirty announcement - at Silverstone. Just
broke my PB from 1:30.15, with a whopping 1:28.94! Got the combination
of Maggotts, Becketts and Chapel spot on and knew I'd broken my PB.
But when I looked at the times and saw 1:28 my jaw hit the floor!
Now my Silverstone time is better than my Monza time lol :) Gotta love
it :D
Rafe Mc
Sub-1:30 GPL lap at Silverstone
Rafe McAuliffe announced a Grand Prix Legends personal best of 1:28.94 at Silverstone, crediting a smoother line through Becketts and Chapel learned from replays sent by Jan Verschueren (a line credited to Mark Jeangerard). The thread became friendly banter about GPLRank, who was faster, and the regulars' lives outside sim racing.
Automated summary.
Well done Rafe!! Nice improvement.
Jan.

any more than I told you when I sent him the two 1m29s laps (mine and
Mark's). As usual I didn't save the message in the sent items folder (I
delete messages having an attachment from there).
Perhaps, if Rafe still has them he'd be prepared to reproduce my words of
wisdom (if any) here?
Generally, I'm always willing to try and help people get faster/more
consistent, so basically I always "have a minute".

Here is the short message Jan sent me, but it doesn't really mean much
unless you watch the replays as well. But the line is a LOT smoother
and easier to get the power down, without that nasty bump in Becketts.
Additionally, the line I used to take through Chapel was slow, as well
as inconsistent. Didn't even realise how early I needed to turn in to
get a good line/apex through it. Certainly made a difference when I
got it right though.
Emailing replays ATM.
"The line" is counter-intuitive in the sense it seems to go against
the rule of thumb of driving turn combinations such as to prefer the
exit, which in this case would mean squeezing Becketts a little (which
is what I used to do). Turns out however, that if you run Becketts as
if Chapel weren't there, it's still possible to cut a good line
through the turn and, IMO, it's slightly easier to line up this way.

LOL, well, my reason for asking is that I don't race online, with GPL,
and although I've registered for GPLrank, I've never submitted any laps,
so unless he knows something I don't, he'll have a hard time finding out
how quick (slow) I am at most GPL tracks :-)

Plenty of it, unlike say....California ? :-)
I race online, or used to anyway, but hardly at all in GPL
I did more than my fair share with Nascar2 on TEN, and have raced some
in the TPTCC league with N3, I'm currently between apartments and have
nowhere to set up my PC/wheel/pedals/chair so I can enjoy online racing,
which is why I'm missing the current TPTCC season, but there will be
others
The thing is, I don't race GPL much, not because I don't think it's any
good, because I do, I happen to think it's one of the best racing sims
ever released and will still stand as a benchmark for other sims for
quite some time, I just don't have much interest in old F1 cars, or
current for that matter, I like watching F1 on TV, and I will more than
likely attend a race one day, but I've never aspired to be an F1 driver
Give me touring cars any day, preferably the Australian V8 variety :-),
failing that, I'll take historic touring cars.....but I gotta have
fenders and a roof :-)

LoL-Goy, Dag I didnt think I'd get such a concise detailed re: :)
Ok, I can see your point! I was j/k but since you took the time
with this re: I will too.
I guess since the 60s seems only like yesterday to an old racing
hippy like me I enjoy GPL a lot! It doesnt remind me of any of
the newer f1 game-sims tho & I agree with what you say about
GPL even tho some here seem to have issues with this but that
is their problem not ours.. :)
Since I have been PC sim racing online&off since Micropose
World Circuit came out I like *all!* PC type sims... If it has a
motor in it, or on it, I will race it.:-) For me I just like basically
all of them unless they just don't cut it imho & there are a few
that do!! So I guess we kinda agree!!.....eh? <g>
now thats my 1/100th of cent worth
