Schumacher joke post coincides with Burti's Spa crash

An empty post titled as a joke about Michael Schumacher being rammed out of a race appeared just as Luciano Burti had a huge crash at the 2001 Belgian GP, prompting an angry response. Others pointed out the post predated the crash, and the thread turned to relief at reports Burti was conscious and discussion of how the tyre wall and nosecone absorbed the impact.

Sorry for the foul language, That post made my blood boil. I have heard on ITV that he is conscious and okay, if that's is true (I prey it is) then he is one lucky guy. I was gobsmacked at how much the car was still intact. Jimmy

i am about to see the crash on channel 9's delayed "live" coverage that they show in australia. from all reports i fear what i am about to see. i thought when i saw senna's accident live all those years ago that it was live. he was dead even before lamy ran up the back of lehto (when it happened on australian tv) we don't like these sort of accidents in our sport. god bless, luciano. may you escape this accident intact.

It's bearable knowing he'll be ok. People mention the nose being intake being a good thing??? Hmmmmm.... It's a deformable structure to take the impact of a head on collision and it hardly had a mark besides the tip of it... I can't see how that was good for Burti.

The original message was actually posted before the crash (I know this for a fact because this post reminded me to change channel to ITV, after which the crash occured). Although the crash was truly horrific, I think it is obvious that this guy was not being in any way malicious or thoughtless.

They're only designed to deform up to the end of the nosecone, the drivers feet are directly behind the front wheel centre. Had the cockpit beyond the nose cone deformed it could have been bad for the driver -- Ian P <email invalid due to spammers> "GraDee" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:kJvk7.143$[email hidden]... > People mention the nose being intake being a good thing??? It seems that the imapct was more side-on than head-on, which makes me think how fortunate he was that the car didn't roll after the initial impact... -- Jak http://go.to/f1info ** Competitions latest online ** * also full Belgian GP review *

We discussed this in work today, and concluded that the tyre wall actually stopped the nose from reaching the wall - ripping off the front suspension in the process, and probably stopping the car on the sidepods. We also suspect that tyres meeting Burti's helmet saved his head from being slammed against the steering wheel in a ~16g deceleration - possibly a better option. Jonny
A little over-the-top don't you think? It was a joke and nothing to do with the Burti crash. "Jimmy" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:9mt8o3$nul$[email hidden]... > You fool, > > There's a guy dying on the track and a prick like you is posting shit like > this. > > Fuck off

However, the nose took the full brunt and didn't break, I'd thought that'd be bad for Burti. If it deforms it takes the impact, if it doesn't then the impact goes through the car and Burti himself... he's ok though, no need to worry.

Maybe the tyres took most of the impact so the nosecone didn't need to deform. Whatever the reason at least Burti survived the accident. If it had happened a decade previously I feel we may be discussing another lost driver. -- Ian P <email invalid due to spammers> "GraDee" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:B2tl7.2$[email hidden]... > > Ian P <[email hidden]> wrote in message > news:9muf42$6r0$[email hidden]... > > They're only designed to deform up to the end of the nosecone, the drivers > > feet are directly behind the front wheel centre.
