Has anyone else tried to run GPL after a CLEAN install of XP? Everything is
OK except for the engine sound which is totally wrong! It just sounds,
well, musical! When I did an upgrade to XP from ME it was OK, but a fresh
install has cocked up the sound on my SBLive completely on GPL - it's
unusable - help!

same here, fresh install. don't know about the upgrade. never tried it.
other SB Live users report very bad sound in some other games. some games
work o.k. ( N4 is the only i tried and is ok ).

Someone told me that setting sound quality lower in APP.ini helps
this is what I have, works better in Win2K
[ Sound ]
soundQuality = 2

I also had some sound problems with SB live , but in Win98.
The engine sound was like stears. . . strange steps up and down.
I think the problem was the settings in windows, modem and other settings
wit sounds.
What device to use etc.
Stefan Zscharnack
Thats exactly the effect -- steps up and down! What settings did you
change to resolve this?

When I changed the sblive settings
for simultaneous wave sounds to 0, the problem was fixed. Setting it
back to more than that would bring the problem back. Only in GPL too.
I can't remember what my permanent fix was, but I've got a feeling it
sorted itself out after a reboot while it was set to 0. No driver
change either. Go figure.

How did you make that change on XP? I can't see how to do it in Control
Panel. Do you mean within GPL itself?

Creative "AudioHQ", then go to the Device controls, where you can
choose no. of simultaneous waves.

Creative haven't released a version of Liveware
(inc Audio HQ) for XP yet. Coming in mid-oct though.

cant remember the site address though, but it fixed the sound, GPL sounds
perfect.
