Can anyone explain how the differential lock works ? I am playing with a setup for F1CS2K and need some advice. Regards PerL
Essentially, in simple terms, lock up is the amount the driving wheels (rear in this case) are connected together. 100% lockup is as if the rear wheels are on one axel. They turn at the same rate. This makes it very good for puttting down the power, as it's harder to wheels spin. But it makes it very hard to turn tight corners (ie hairpins and chicanes). 0% lockup is where the rear wheels aren't connected at all. The outside wheel could be stopped, and the inside wheel could spinning, and the car wouldn't recieve any drive at all. But it makes turning tighter turns much easier. Basically, you want it somewhere between these two. Also, the higher the lock, the more the rear end will loose grip as you turn as the inside wheel fights the outside wheel. It's only little, but it makes a big difference at 180mph through Eau Rouge. Tracks like Monza and Hockenhiem would run something like 80% lockup, where somewhere like Silverstone or Spa would run less, maybe around 30%. I'm guessing here, with general figures, not in game figures. Hope the helps.. James PS.. It gets more complicated in GPL, but essentially, that's the basics :0) "Per Lundkvist" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

I wondered the same exact thing Gunnar, Also when you say higher lock do you mean like 20:1 or like a 10:1? I always use "tighter lock" but what do I know?.. :) "Gunnar Horrigmo" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... | "James Pickard" <[email hidden]> writes: | | > Tracks like Monza and Hockenhiem would run something like 80% lockup, where
