Two things come to mind
Sitting in pits may be an accurate way to compare but its meaningless
When you get on the track with everyone else the jump in fps isnt near so
much
Also, I am still getting blurry images on the cars
I have 3 different mfg with the gf2gts 64mb (Elsa, Asus, Cardexpert), all
1ghz cpus
All cards have the same effect when it comes to any drivers after 6.50 (the
cars look fine with these drivers)
Also, Elsa told me that if i was getting lockups with 6.50 and dx8.0a it
wasnt directx causing it
So far, reinstalling the drivers fixes those problems
fwiw, your support on the drivers is amazing but im now thinking you havent
seen what N4 can do when it comes to clear images on the cars
:)

I have no idea what is causing your "car blurring" problem. I have never
had it......so there's nothing for me to "explore." It must be something
inherent in the GF3 GTS board architecture......and I can't test that since
I've never had one of those video cards. Can you borrow a GF2 ULTRA or a
GF3 from some source to test this?
Does anyone else get blurry cars in N4 using a GF2 GTS video card?
[I should note to all other r.a.s. readers - Tim has been sending me email
about this issue for several weeks now....maybe its a couple months even?
I'm not bitching about that - I'm glad to attempt to help him. I'm just out
of suggestions for him......as of several weeks ago.]
Your "comment" on the N4 benchmark is noted. However, I should point out
that a "benchmark" is useful only when all possible variables (except
one....in this case, the video card driver versions) are fixed. I really
don't care what my frame rate is in N4 compared to sitting in the Atlanta
pits static at 1024x16 res (I don't even use that resolution to run N4, I
use 1600x1200x16, with 2xFSAA and 4-anistropic.....and get near
"Kodak-moment" graphics in N4 with mid 70's FPS...and full AI fields). What
I do care about, is finding a "fixed benchmark" I can use to test the effect
the new NV ref drivers have on the N4 FPS directly and as accurately as
possible (that means it needs to be reproducible from test session to test
session). Back a few months ago, there was an appeal made on this newsgroup
for everyone to test FPS in N4 using the same technique......so one could
use that data to determined something more useful about how their computer
system was running N4 (because N4 lacked its own benchmarking loop). The
"Atlanta Static Pit" benchmark I use was the consensus choice back then.
That is why I use it....and report the FPS for it. I'm not reporting those
FPS figures to insinuate that those are what your N4 FPS rates would be when
you are actually racing in N4. Mine aren't either. What is significant is
that when a new Nvidia driver increases my "benchmark" FPS in N4....it
translates to a similar percentage increase in operational FPS in N4. Hope
that makes sense?
Regards,
Tom

look anywere near what the replays do. I would say the replays are up near
the "Kodak" range. In the game the cars look dull. The reflections are still
there but its almost like the cars have an orange peel paint job so the
refection is very deep. Even the quality of the replay did seem to go down
with the 21.81 over the 12.40, but that may be some of those hidden switches
in the drivers. I haven't check to see if both settings were apples to
apples. I have not spent to much time with N4 I basicly play it once in a
blue moon more for the eye candy than any thing else. so I haven't done to
much as far as trying to improve it.

Yes, I do. When the cars are close they are nice and sharp, but when
they are about 20 ft. down the track they go all blurry.
Tim...
You mean a GF3.....the GF2 ULTRA is old stuff.

anistropic and mip-map and LOD settings to make sure they are in the window
of norms. Also, try setting the LOD slider (just as a test) to max (minus)
and see if that changes the distance blur on the cars. That will confirm
its a mip-mapping issue.

Tim...
The "LOD" refers to mip-map Level Of Detail. Its a slider you set to give
bias to the mip-map levels displayed. However, I must have been sleepy last
night....because I forgot you were talking about N4....meaning you are
running it in OpenGL, not D3D. LOD adjustment is only in D3D. Sorry for
the error.

Yea, I re-installed N4 yesterday and have graphics quality maxed out
in OpneGL mode and still get the blurry cars. The textures on the cars
in replay mode are all blurry too. But, I looked in the rendOGL.ini
file and it looks like there are some parameters I might be able to
change that might affect this. Will have a look later.
Hi Tom,
on my [email hidden], WinME, 4xAGP, Fastwrites, A7M266, GF2U, AMD AGP Miniport,
v. 4.80, DX 8.1, 1152x864@16bit in
OpenGL, the 21.81 are repeatably about 4% faster than the 21.85.
