I wait and wait for this damn game and now that I have it the f---ing thing
won't run.
When I launch the program I get the "Safe Disk" splash screen (BTW, WTF is
that) and then a black screen with the hourglass. That's it. Thanks to
another thread I have set the config.ini to open the game in a window rather
than fullscreen so I don't have to reboot to get out of the freeze.
I have tried the 1240, 1241 and 2483 video drivers with no change. None of
the versions of these drivers I have found seem to be DirectX 8 certified.
Is that the problem? I have also set my desktop to 16 bit color as per an
earlier thread. Also, I clean out my system tray and kill all the programs
I can.
When I run the 3D config, I don't see anything other than text. Is this
normal? With the 1240 and 1241 I got object detail full and texture detail
low. With the 2483 the latter went to high
Here is my system:
Athalon 1Ghz on Asus A7V
256 MB RAM
Elsa Gladiac Geforce 2 MX
SoundBlaster Live Value
Can anybody help me solve this very frustrating problem? Retail software
should not be this hard.
Thanks-
Tom

Same prob here, just text in the config , sometimes see the splash screen on
launch,
just goes back to the desktop.
KT133, Duron 700, ATI 128 32 meg Fury, 256meg ram, Hercules Muse
most distressing.

Maybe it is the copy protection not being compatible with your cdrom
drive (that's what Safedisk is). Get the no-cd patch here and try
running it again.

your CDROMs seems to really piss safedisk off.
Goto:
Control Panel>System>Device Manager>[Double Click Your CDROM]
Choose the "Settings" Tab.
Uncheck "DMA"
See if that works.

I guess it's good
to advertise you have taken away someone's rights as provided for under the
Fair Use Doctrine these days, but I digress...

There is another way. I know it works, because I just did it (as I do with
ALL of my Game CD's).
NOTE - THIS METHOD IS ONLY PROVIDED FOR USE BY THOSE WHO HAVE A PAID-FOR,
LEGAL COPY OF THE GAME AND THEY WOULD LIKE TO USE IT FOR THEIR OWN USE. I
DO NOT CONDONE PIRACY AND THIS PROCEDURE IS NOT AN ENDORSEMENT OF PIRACY.
1. Buy Game.
2. Install DaemonTools (2.80 is the latest version I think).
3. On the DaemonTools web site, download the DDump Utility and Install.
4. Using the DDump Utility (default settings, don't change any options!),
creat an ISO of the CD. It will take a while
due to the phony defective sectors. Store the .ISO and .CUE file in a
folder of your choosing.
5. Put your original CD away safely in it's box. You won't need it any
more. Record the S/N from the back of
the CD carrier so you have it for installation.
6. Enable the SafeDisk emulation option using the DaemonTools System-Tray
Icon.
7. Using the DaemonTools System-Tray Icon, load up the .CUE file as a Local
CD-ROM.
8. Install and enjoy F2001!
DaemonTools is an absolutely fantastic Virtual CD-ROM Drive driver that
creates a 'virtual' CD-ROM that you can load any ISO Image into, and it
mounts in My Computer, drive letter and all, just like it was a real CD-ROM
drive with a real CD in it.
DaemonTools also emulates most of the known copy protection systems,
allowing them to run as a Virtual CD.
DDump is a free utility for creating ISO's of CD's. It can deal with the
phony bad sectors, etc.. that most Copy Protection nonsense uses.
I have a 60GB drive on my server that contains ISO images of every game I
play regularly. When I want to play a game, I just click on the DaemonTools
Icon in the System-Tray, and select the ISO. The ISO mounts as a real CD,
and the autorun stuff (if applicable) takes place and away you go!
Yes, DaemonTools actually works across Networks! It will not retain the ISO
Selection after a restart, but it does retain the _name_ and _Location_ of
the ISO of the last CD used, so it's easy to re-select it.
Using this method, I have been able to safely store away all of my original
master CD's, where no dog, kid or whatever can damage them :)
