Hello-
I can't get f1 2001 to start. Windows 98se, Creative Labs Graphics
Blaster Riva TNT 16mb, 256mb ram, 18gb hard drive, 9gb free.
I've updated to latest video bios, and have tried both the latest
creative labs drivers and the 21.83 driver from nvidia and both
exhibit the same problem: Start game, get EasyDisc splashscreen,
monitor sounds like it switches resolution, screen goes black, mouse
cursor goes to hourglass. Mouse is moveable but keyboard is locked
(can't turn numlock on/off). Have to reset the computer via the reset
switch.
I've tried the game in a multitiude of resolutions via the 3d setup
program and have tried changing my native windows resolution to the
same as the game.
I have running the latest Directx as confirmed by dxdiag. I also
redownloaded Directx from Microsoft and the files are the same name &
size.
I do not have DMA check for the cdrom drive and I've tried installing
the game in both drives that I have, one is a regular cdrom, the other
is a slower cdrw.
The above troubleshooting seems to be what I've gathered from reading
this newsgroup and also looking at EA's docs. Nothing works.
Any ideas?
Tried different refresh dates for desktop display? For me slowest
worked finally in Windows XP.
DOK

off. It won't allow you to change screen resolution or the refresh rate.
I had the same problem. What ended up solving it was changing the Preferred
Audio Playback device. I have a program that records an internet radio show
every night. The playback engine for that program was showing as the prefer
device. I just changed it back to the SoundBlaster playback engine and all
was well. The only problem is that I have to switch back and forth now to
get my recorder to work. The option is under Multimedia in the Control Panel
(I'm sure you knew that).
I have also had problems with the Nvida 21.xx drivers. My framerate is
still a problem but is better on the 12.41 drivers. I am running a Geforce2
MX.
Hope this helps.

You hit it right on the head. I changed the sound device in the
Multimedia Control Panel from "Game Compatible Device" to "SB Live"
and it worked, first try. No other changes and I'm able to even use
my native Creative Labs video drivers which work better than the
nvidia ones.
Thanks for the help.
Cheers

I have the same problem when trying to run F12k1 and Fraps together.
