Nvidia driver of choice for F12001?

Best Nvidia driver version for F1 2001

MadDAWG asked which Nvidia driver works best with F1 2001 on a GeForce2. Answers varied widely across the 7.52, 12.90, 21.83 and 6.xx versions, with differing needs for windowed mode or FRAPS and problems such as missing mirrors. It was reported that ISI knew of the 12.xx to 21.xx issues and planned a fix in a patch.

So what is the general consensus on drivers versions for a Geforce 2 video card in f12001? I have to do a complete reinstall of my system so I can go with just about any one I need to as long as it dosen't cause problems with any of my other titles. I'm seeing 12.40 and 12.90 being mentioned alot so I'm thinking its down to them. I have not tried the 12.90 as I went straight from 12.40 to the 21.81. Does any of the 21 series work at all? I did pick up in some of my other games with the 21.81 over the 12.40 so I would rather not lose there if I don't have too. Thanks MadDAWG

12.90 for me. Todd "MadDAWG" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:3bd3fc90$[email hidden]... > So what is the general consensus on drivers versions for a Geforce 2 video > card in f12001? 7.52 and I don't have to run in windowed mode. I tried some other drivers last night and NON of them worked well except this one. I have a GeForce GTS 64 mb. "Todd Sorensen" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:jnUA7.214210$[email hidden]...

Don't suppose you have N4 or DTR do you? I know somewhere right around the 7.52 range both of those titles got "broke". In N4 I think it was a problem with the shadows, and DTR had too many problems to list. MadDAWG
I dunno what the general consensus is, but the 21.83 (latest official) drivers work fine for me. Completely untrue! Some people with nvidias need to run in a window. I run full screen @ 1280 with my GF2 Ultra and 12.90s, and the frame rate couldn't be smoother. Seems to depend very much on the individual system. The 21.83s worked really well for me on my Ultra without window mode, or FRAPS (never made any difference at all that!). Only problem was no mirrors, so I went back to 12.90s and everything is perfect. Iain "MadDAWG" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > With or without any of the "tricks" ? window mode, fraps, etc. > > > MadDAWG > >
21.83 seemed to be working well for me (GF2 GTS) however, when I tried GPL I was getting a corrupted screen (PC still running but fuzzy screen - not locked up) each time the pit board appeared. At least I assume that was the cause of the crash. I have therefore gone back to 12.60. This provides the best compromise for me. DVD playback and compatible with powersave modes. I did notice a fair increase in fps in N4 with the 21.83. F1 2001 in a window BTW MadDAWG <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > With or without any of the "tricks" ? window mode, fraps, etc. > > > MadDAWG > >
Yeah, I don't get all this talk about FRAPS, windowed mode etc. F1 2001 runs best for me in "full screen" mode with NO FRAPS. FRAPS makes it a little jerky. I had mirrors, but the cars looked like skeletons in the mirrors. I agree, 12.90's all the way, baby. It is funny how there is no single solution to the driver, mode and FRAPS issues. In fact, it seems that nearly everyone's system is behaving differently with this game. 12.83 worked well on my system, but I noticed objects in the distance seemed a bit blurry. I dropped back to 6.50. Took a frame hit but still reasonable. I think people have had success with 6.xx drivers. Btw, ISI knows about this and it is confirmed to be associated with 12.xx to 21.xx drivers. It's supposed to be fixed in the upcoming patch.

Eh, I said I was running @1280, so lower res (1024 and 800) are a lot easier. My point was that it is only SOME people, not ALL as you said in your post that have the frame rate problem. Seems to depend very much on the individual system. I am using a GF2 Ultra as well Iain. Would you mind telling me what cpu you have? I seem to have good luck as long as I use 12.xx series drivers, and stick with 16-bit color. The minute I go to 32-bit color (even in 800x600) the game get choppy beyond belief. For the first time last night I tried the "4" anti-alias setting in 1024x768x16, and it looked wonderful. I just wish I could run it in 32-bit color satisfactorily. You'd think this would be possible using a GF2 Ultra and 1.4ghz T-Bird. :-( (This is also in WinXP for what it's worth) "Iain Mackenzie" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:qLZA7.38482$[email hidden]... > Completely untrue! The whole situation seems to be very weird. I'm running the GF2 Ultra with 1.4 TBird as well, and also on XP! I've got 512mb RAM. I have absolutley no problem with running this sim @ 1280 32 bit. When I was on the 21.xx drivers I had jerkiness and missing mirrors, and the whole thing was completely unplayable. Whenever I went back to the 12.90s, everything was perfect! It almost seems to be down to the individual. god knows how EA are going to sort this one! Holy cow, identical systems almost completely. I tried again last night to do 800x600-32bit color with the 21.88's and obviously had no luck, so it's back to 12.90's for me. I've been playing with some of the options in NVMax to no avail as well. Well, it's nice to know that it is possible, somehow, to do 32-bit color in high res with the specs of my system, I'm just curious why I personally am not able to. Thanks for the info Iain.
