The big limitation on F1 multiplayer, or so EA and Ubi Soft have told us, is the licensing barriers invoked by the FIA. OK. So the Champweb Studios guys are gonna take the F1 2001 sim engine and port it to a 2002 CART World Series. I'm pretty sure that CART has NO online limitations. So.... If the upcommming CART 2002 title can't handle more than 4 or 5 online drivers, we should have a pretty good idea of the following. 1) EA & Ubi Soft can't provide a quality online enviroment 2) THe FIA really is full of #%^@ but that doesn't mean the F1 sims couldn't have done a better job implementing multiplayer. 3) Papyrus have been and are HEAD AND SHOULDERS above all other online racing companies in execution and technical acheivement. 4) We may never see online endurance racing via WSC where two or more drivers can share the same car. Any other conclusions? dave henrie

good questions :)
So what if the Champweb Studios guys turn F12001 into a CART sim? That doesn't change the fact that EA and Ubi Soft didn't develop the online code fully due to licensing restrictions. The FACT is that Ubi Soft was NOT ALLOWED by the FIA to give us online TCP/IP racing in F1RC. They basically snuck what we did get into the game. Since they weren't allowed to develop the online capabilities, why would they then devote precious development time towards it? That doesn't mean they can't, or didn't want to. If you don't believe me, then ask Schumi (F1RC Relay) if Ubi Soft was or was not handcuffed by the FIA. As for their abilities, they already proved four years ago that they can provide excellent online play with POD. They were very enthusiastic about online racing, and even sponsored a $10,000 tournament which I happened to compete in.
