CART Loses Penske

Penske leaves CART for the IRL

News that Penske was moving from CART to the IRL revived the argument over whether CART was dying. rik anthrax cited new FedEx and Simple Green sponsorship as proof of health, and Rick Baumhauer explained that there was no SEC investigation, just a filing by shareholder Jon Vannini. The thread then drifted into congratulations for Olav Malmin on quitting smoking and assorted jokes.

AR1 is reporting that SimpleGreen has signed for at leat 2 more years with CART and may sponsor a driver next season. CART is obviously alive and kicking, seems the "cart is dead" crowd has their head in the wrong place.

Penske? dunno. Marlboro- completely out of all sports advertising in 2006. bu-bye cancer sticks.
There is no positive sign to it.. Not only is CART shooting itself in the foot with bad management but it is also slowly losing the owner base that made the company what it is. They are also under financial investigation by the SEC and are probably heading for bankruptcy. CW "Olav K. Malmin" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

Infact since a lot of their income is from interest, I would say they would be hostely taken over by a company that wanted to strip the cash before they go bankrupt. Dave
CART is not under investigation by the SEC. Cowen Wilson <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:3be74786$[email hidden]... > There is no positive sign to it.. They obviously need to advertise to people who are dumb enough to start smoking. Guess that explains the switch!

You go Olav !!!! I quit myself back in 87, the day I was discharged from the Navy in fact, and part from the odd Cigar at special occasions, I've been smoke free since, still get the urge for one every so often though, especially after lunch.....:-) Beers and cheers (uncle) Goy "The Pits" http://www.theuspits.com/ * Spam is for losers who can't get business any other way * "Spamkiller" http://www.spamkiller.com
Let's try this again, kids - there is *NO SEC INVESTIGATION*. Jon Vannini simply filed a required form with the SEC when he bought more stock, and expressed the desire to have a "racing guy" at the top and all of the team owners off the Delaware Board. CART is *far* from going bankrupt - they have between $100 and $200 million in cash. While CART may not be particularly healthy right now, that has a lot to do with the war that was fought between Honda and Toyota over the last few years, and the very skewed economics that came out of that war. There will be a retrenchment, but the series will, in the long run, be fine. CART as a series is still alive with a formula that'll remind many of a modified IRL. The CART series that many knew & loved, however, is dead. -- Fester

Great job! The smokes *can* be beat. I quit in May of '94 after years of 3+ packs a day. The extra money has come in handy. :-) -- Fester

Ouch! 3+ a day. I usually used 3 days on one if I were not going to the pub. Thanks for all the encouragment people. I will specially thank Ed Solheim for initial inspiration on the Le Mans bus trip. :) And the extra money can very well be used on a new Radeon or GF3... -- Olav K. Malmin remove .spam when replying

Congrats on quitting smoking, Olav! My mother smoked like a fiend for years. One day she went to the doctor for a routine physical, and the doctor wanted to take a chest X-ray because he didn't like the sounds he heard from her breathing. When the X-ray came back, there was very little healthy lung tissue left. The doctor told my mother that if she didn't quit immediately, she'd be dead in less than a year. She quit cold turkey, that day. Then she called my dad, who was out of town on a business trip, and cried over the phone for hours! (Thank God the Internet wasn't really big back then, 'cuz I would've never gotten on that night)!! Hopefuuly, Olav, your experience won't be as bad as my mom's. Bob Jan Verschueren wrote:
