I know the following to be true. If you try to show more than 25 cars in front of you in a Multiplayer race your throughtput will eventually become unacceptable no matter what it was to start. I've got a good system... capable of 30+ frames with abosolutely maxed. It doesn't matter...somehow the system gets messed up and kicks you. Actually, the "quality" number gets low and ping goes way up.. gradually. Also messes up my internet connection for a minute or two because my other computer can no longer access the net through the same connection via router/hub. I've confirmed this on two successive nights. I run Win XP with an Athlon 1700+ with a Radeon 32 DDR. It's not a problem with the OS or hardware.. Q3 runs online with no problem.. for hours. Anyway.. wanted everyone to know this could be a problem on your system.. a very frustrating one because it's not related to the connection - "its in the game". Later.... KH

I have a cable modem and don't really experience that. I run 42 cars ahead and 21 behind. I have XP with a 1.33 athlon and a GF2MX. Everything maxed, minus reflections/specular highlights and mirrors on medium, I run about 45+ FPS online. With all options on I get about 35 fps.
