Allow me to add fuel to the fire and hereby putforward a few of my hopes and
wishes for GPL2 (if we ever see one).
Assuming GPL2 will be about the 1972 'GP' season.. I would love to see the
following features in 'GPL2';
- All the tracks from the 1972 championship. (If any "swaps" are needed -
change the Belgium GP to the old Spa or Zolder or replace Nivells with the
non-championship race in Brazil (the real Interlagos - all 8km of it) or
perhaps the Gold Cup at Oulton Park! What ever yuo do do - do NOT under ANY
circumstances replace Brands Hatch with Silverstone!
- All top teams / cars from the season. or better yet *all* cars used
during the season..
- Pitstops! (I DO NOT CARE if they NEVER happend in '72 - *I* want to fix
*my* car if it brake-down or whatever.) I also dont care if my pit-stop will
take a minute or 2 if thats needed... In a long [online] races we could
make mandatory stops or make repairs if needed... all in all... it wont
hurt will it? IMHO, it will only make the "gameplay" more interresting...
- RAIN and dynamic weather (Dont tell me you cant match Crammond - Mr.
Kaemmer :-)
- Slicks and Rain tyres
- Punctures and better damage models (both car, driveline and engine)
- Multiplayer code/stuff a'la N4. (or better)
- Custom Driver helmets!
Just like N4 allow you to share paint-jobs and see eachothers cars online -
I would love the same feature being applied to driver helmets in GPL2. The
ability to see who's behind the wheel would be soo cool and should be "soo"
simple to include! *Please* (Btw, paintjobs on the cars would be cool
aswell, but given a choice I'll take personal helmets any day! (Psst: Dont
forget to make several helmet types; Open face, open face with peak, full
face, full face with peak etc.)
- Race Results with real lapcharts and results.
- Abillity to create new or own teams
- Ability to submit entrant information that is displayed in race-results
etc.
- Ability to drive for my own country this time! (i.e more country choices)
- Track "builder" - Something that allow us to make ourown tracks without
being able to modify exsisting ones.
- A GPL=>GPL2 Track converter :-))
- VROC 2 support! (or vice versa?)
- Savegame-feature (I know... but lets face it... 1. Offline league-racing
is more or less gone. 2. People will only whine and demand this anyway 3. It
will "help" game-play for those that perhaps need it the most. (This goes
for N5 too btw... lets face it... offline racing is more or less dead.)
- Adjustable mirrors! This time we'll all really need it!
I've not mentioned so of the features presently supported in N4 (Shifter,
Clutch etc.) as I assume these will make it's way into GPL2 aswell.
Feel free to add more fuel to the bonfire!

GPL2 wish list assuming a 1972 season
Ed Solheim listed features he wanted in a rumoured GPL2 based on 1972, including the full set of tracks, custom cars and better league tools, and others added ideas. Suggestions included adjustable brake bias, accelerated wear, dynamic rain, AI slipstreaming, grid ordering, a simple setup save and compatibility with existing tracks. GPLRA author Martin Granberg discussed HTML export of results.
Automated summary.
Good set of features, allow me to add in car adjustable brake bias. Perhaps
an accellerated wear functionality for shorter races would be nice as well.

Interlagos was 8km??? I never knew that. And what's wrong with Silverstone?
I prefer that to Brands, which I can't STAND...

Ed, that's what GPL2RA is for! :)

My personal wishes are for a 70-76 gpl, with the best cars and tracks
available during that period. That and dynamic rain are the things I
really want!!!
Custom cars would be pretty good too, not a bad idea.
And of course all the original GPL tracks will be included :)

I think a quick look at the present menu structure in GPL gives a hint of the future-think at Papy:
sierra/gpl/cars/cars67
and the there's the seasons (plural) directory.
Seems to be built for seasonal expansion packs (or add-ons ;-) ) already...
But heck, since I'm a yank and we're wishing, I'll take a cupholder!

Nice conspiracy theory. I've been thinking the same thing once. But I
think it's more the papy way of doing car folders. It's like that in
all papy games with a year specific folder.
Remember, the car parameters are coded in gpl.exe, so the cars folder are only
for textures and 3d shapes.

As for Interlagos.. they full circuit back then measured some 7960 meters.

Yeah, Olav - I didn't think GPL was actually ready to take the add-ons; just thought it gave a peek into their thinking. Why else
have a folder for cars 67 at all, otherwise - they could've just stuck everything in gpl/cars. A bit of code poked into the exe
and voila! Wasn't it true that some of the bits for N4 were already in the GPL code, but unused? Wonder what GPL2 bits might be
lurking in the N4 code....

Oh, I forgot a few things...
Keep the scrubbed tires on;
Just like I've suggested for N5 I would like to be able to use 'scrubbed'
(used) tires during any session. Meaning, that in a qual or practice session
I should be able to go into the pits... change stuff on my car, and still be
able to keep my old 'scrubbed' (and "warm") tires.
Ranking system:
Support for some kind of ranking system (like in N4) that allow hosts to put
minimum LPI (Laps Per Incident) restrictions. I DO NOT CARE about skill
levels - it being clean, fair and a good sportsman that counts IMHO.

Although GPLRA is getting better at this (new features look good btw) it's
not quite where I want it...
Take HTML export forexample - does 'RA' do that?
Speaking of HTML-exports...
I would also love to be able to create/define my own template that will be
used when exporting results etc.
The way all the league admins and webmasters webmasters out there can save a
few hours "converting" web-pages after each race. This should be fairly
easy to include imho... all thats needed is for the us to make a
html-document (complying to certain "rules") that include some sort of
pointers that tell the progam where to put the various bits of information
when creating a new html document based on this template. Just like most
bulletin boards work today I think.

Not for the results, no. Only laptimes (records)
There are a number of such league tools today. Ofcourse we could
implement it in GPLRA, but I doubt we'll do it. (have to draw the line
somewhere...).

And also loads it as default next time. Which is my main gripe with F1
2001 (apart from the MSFF split axis travel problem unsolvable in
Win2000), it's freaking annoying to have to save by writing the setup
name and not clicking anything, and having to load the setup each and
evey time i exit the track.

Olav,
In F1 2001 you can pick a default set up for each track. I think it's
the icon right next to the save icon. Unfortunately it's still not
smart enough to give you a different default for each car, but if you
stick with the same car all the time that is not a problem.
