I've been trying to download "SBLive!" drivers from www.soundblaster.com and
www.creative.com for the last 5 days. I've had nothing but errors and dead
links. At the moment, on the download driver page, when I select any region
and choose any "SBLive!" product, all the 'helpful' search engine finds is a
f***ing utility for the Nomad Jukebox!!!!!!!!! - no liveware, no drivers -
screw Creative!!! How can such a massive corporation be so incompetant? WTF
is going on?

Hmm, I tried and I'm downloading the SoundBlaster Live XP drivers just fine
at 42Kb/Sec (DSL). Try it just one more time. It may have more to do with
your ISP. I'm way out in the country and there just aren't that many people
online here. Plus my ISP isn't a big national ISP like AOL or Earthlink.
I don't know??? Works for me????

They took all the liveware software down, you can order it on cd - for

doing a search on google.
They're going to make a new program for the sblive cards which also
won't be called liveware anymore - I applaud that, since I allways
found the liveware software crappy and very clumsy to use. But the
fact you can't download the software is total crap. My next soundcard
won't be from Creative.
PS there is some info about this on the sblive site, but the site is
down atm.

Yea, it's a nice card and I have one, but the SC drivers are not exactly
perfect either.
The Win98 drivers cause a BSOD in certain games and the XP drivers have a
problem when using 3D sound API's like EAX or A3D where in some games the
sound drops out sporadically. I have this problem under XP in both N4 and
IL-2 Sturmovik.

I don't know yet, when the time comes, I'll ask here for suggestions
:)
The sblive card itself is very good but I allways have problems with
the software - Last week I did a windows reinstall, reinstalled the
SBlive software, and when I play movies now I have an echo sound, in
games it's good. In the EAX environment I have everything set to 'no
effects'. One of many problems I have with the software.
So I'm curious if their new software will be more userfriendly, but NO
WAY I'm going to pay for software that lets me use the soundcard I
bought.

Well, I had some success getting WinME drivers from this site....the problem
is that rear speakers can't be enabled without installing Liveware....I
guess I could install the mixer from my ancient Liveware 1.0 CD...
BTW, what is PlayCenter 2?
Yes, I bummed the SB drivers from the European site as well a couple of
weeks ago.
Hope this helps,

I've had no problem getting SBlive drivers. I first started at
creativelabs.com and selected support - its pretty well thought out
actually. I found my XP drivers in no time flat. here's the url that
it led to.

What makes it better? Is there a quantitative difference, or does it just
'sound better to you'?

Not sure what you want...
I personally think the drivers are better, the sound is better, and have had
ZERO technical problems with the TBSC under ANY version of Windows I've
used.
I certainly cannot say the same for the SBLive :)
