What's all this I keep reading about how bad the track looks in Hungary.
That is pretty much how it is in RL...ie: pretty boring, I never heard a
driver sing praises about this track. Perhaps the makers of F12001 made it
too real ?

F1 2001's inaccurate Hungaroring layout
Red Bull defended F1 2001's dull-looking Hungaroring as realistic, but others said the problem was an inaccurate layout, notably a fourth corner that can be taken flat when it is a fourth-gear turn in reality. Driver descriptions, FIA maps and Williams telemetry were cited as evidence. A side debate covered whether F1 drivers take Eau Rouge flat.

The problem is not the boring graphics, the problems is the fantasy
layout.

I agree, all the tracks look fantastic, but the layout of Hungaroring is
plain wrong.
First turn - fine (right, 2nd)
Second turn - fine (left, 2nd)
Third turn - ok (right, flat)
Fourth turn - wrong, F1 cars cannot take this turn flat in 7th gear, this is
a really tricky corner in every other F1 game. The rise is at the wrong
place, the turn isn't sharp enough. (usually about 4th gear, left)
Fifth turn - seems ok (right, 2nd)
First chicane - tighter than in other F1 games
Left-ok
Right-ok
Left-ok
Right-ok
Second chicane - very very wrong, way too much space between the right and
the left turn. Once you get to the apex on the first right, you should be
able to floor it.
Left- ok (2nd)
Last turn - ok
Overall it's a great game though, and enough of the tracks are ok. It would
be nice if they'd used GPS though.

Using GPS in not a stamp of quality. Remember the Cleveland layout of
CART Precision Racing. It had a chicane that wasn't even there. GPS
registrations can also be way off when not done properly.
Let's just agree that they should have done better reasearch :)

GPS data is a great starting point for modelling tracks though, but as you
say, it has to be done right, and the track modellers have to use it right.
UbiSoft used it very well in F1RC for instance, just a pitty it had some bad
flaws elsewhere.
ISI's track accuracy has been poor in all their F1 games, although it
doesn't stop F1 2001 being a fantastic game overall.

Whe cares about every other game? Try real life, where they
do take the corner (I thought) flat in 7th. At least that is what I
remembered this year. That was an extreememly high speed
corner.
Also, you can't take casino straight flat out in Monaco either.
The huge bump will throw the car into a spin if you have FF.
You can't take Eau Rouge flat out like you can in just about
every other game. Need I go on?

Yeah, just like you did when you drove for Jordon this year no
doubt :-)

Hey, you are just too good. Do you have Force Feedback?
Basically no one did in real life this year during the race. And
the ones that tried spun into the wall. Or were total back markers.
I think only one team went flat out through Eau rouge this year.

Your memory doesn't seem to be all that good.
Let's compare:
Wurz: 185 km/h Me: 300 km/h Hmmm...
1:st Chicane:
Wurz: 2nd gear 90 km/h Me: 4th gear 180 km/h Hmm again...
Wish to recant your statement?

Actually, it's the other way around, in F1RC it was plenty difficult
to floor it through Eau Rouge. In F1-2001 I can do it every time, with
both my hands tied behind my back. As can I 130R and blanchimont too.
Even If I lower downforce alot they don't become much of a challenge.

They absolutely do not take that corner flat. As na_biker proves in his
post.
> Yeah, just like you did when you drove for Jordon this year no

I've driven the corner in GP2, GP3, and F1RC which has circuits modelled
from GPS data. I've also seen on-board footage of the whole hungaroring
lap.
I'm not going to take sides in this, since I really don't know squat
about F1, however here is a link to the FIA's track map for Hungaroring,
which I think is a little easier to follow than the quote from Alexander
Wurz.

It's easy to take it flat in F12001. Eau Rouge in F1RC is much, much more
challenging.

Most of the drivers take Eau Rouge full throttle during the race, it's
during qualifying that only few of them do. They go into the corner 20km/h
slower during the race, and everybody takes it flat out.

Yep, the picture shows the turn as 4th gear just like I said. Cheers for

It's a myth. I've watched it on digital tv with cockpit channel
and extra rpm display ... they don't go flat there. There is always
a tiny little lift, you can see it and you can hear it.
Just Villeneuve who's used to racing games tries sometimes
and ends up smashing his BAR in a horrible crash ...
- Tom
Which is EXACTLY what you have to do in F1RC.

I'm not really that good!! I have my system
tweaked pretty good though. It is easier to take flat out with good frame
rates. Then again, maybe my setup is slow- so flat out ain't that fast!!

You're welcome. Now here's an even better one:
http://www.bmw.williamsf1.com/
Go to that URL and click on "Telemetry", and you can get a Flash movie
showing the Williams Team's telemetry from any F1 track. I like this
better because the FIA site actually has some typos on some of the maps
(check out the FIA map for Monaco if you don't believe me, it's
atrocious). Also the telemetry of course tells you a lot more. And
yes, the telemetry for Hungaroring also agrees with what you said. ;o)
Whoa, nice work! :) You could make your own F1 game with data like that.
I also see the second chicane is taken in fourth, so it's a lot faster than
the one in F1 2001.
Cheers Haqsau.
