Just curious which games seem to show off these 3D glasses efx the best.
Suggestions?
I've tried Max Payne, which works ok but there are some visual texture
problems in certain areas that get annoying. The other I've tried is
Comanche4 but that sucks cause I see double of the cockpit view info
screens which really messes with my eyes when trying to play the game.
Is there any game out there that works great for 3D glasses?
Which games look best with 3D shutter glasses
Posters recommended games that work well with stereoscopic 3D glasses, including IL-2, WWII Fighters, Rally Championship 2000, Porsche Unleashed and NASCAR Heat. Many noted problems with 2D HUD elements appearing doubled, eye strain and the need for high refresh rates, since each eye sees half. Experiences with GPL were mixed.
hardware: PC/graphics
Automated summary.
WWII Fighters
IL2 Sturmovik (Opengl)
Longbow2
Enemy Engaged: Commanche vs. Hokum
Gunship!
Mig Alley
CFS2
All work well with 3d glasses. Some are better than others. I think the best
are WWII Fighters, IL2 and LB2

I've always wondered how much 3d
perspective they would give. How does it compare to the virtual
reality feeling ...is it like a feeling its everywhere arround you or
does it just give greater depth to a game and you dont feel things are
like touchable when you reach out ? I think its the latter right since
virtual reality is a much different approach the way i see it.
Just curious if those 3d glasses are TRUELYYYYYYY worth the money.
Ah well, i suspect that in 5 years we could be enjoying virtual
reality for real hihihi, with the new terre processors running at
3000+ gigahetz :). Microsoft better start working on a very heavy OS
with loadssssssss of new things coz otherwise the current OS's will be
just way to small for such powerful processors, then again maybe they
already are working on it for years which would be a wise thing to do
(i've seen pictures of very cool 3d desktops they're working on like
yer pc is in a virtual reality world).

My Asus GF2 GTS came with a preset for NFS:PU. I tried to setup a 3d
profile for GPL manually but that didn't really work.. I did get 3D
but also saw some objects double. Oh well, after a couple of hours the
novelty wears off and those heavy 3d-glasses become rather annoying.

The effect is really great, objects seem to pop-out of the screen and
it feels you can look inside the monitor, especially for racing games
and fps games it's really cool. But first of all the glasses are a
pain to wear (at least the glasses that game with my Asus GF2 card),
for a 3d picture your computer has to show 2 pictures at the same
time, so you really have to turn down resolution/graphic options to
maintain a decent framerate, and after more than half an hour your
eyes start to hurt.
>Just curious if those 3d glasses are TRUELYYYYYYY worth the money.
So.. it's fun for a while, but definately not worth paying much money
for. It's a gimmick and the novelty wears off soon.
Yup.. we really need those cyberhelmets for IL2..

Questions include:
Any other sources, and are any particular glasses
better than others? I am sensitive about cost.
For the IR style, do the batteries last long
enough to make it worth while, or is it a major
expense just feeding the things?
For the IR style, are a second pair of glasses
without the transmitter available at a significant
savings (or would I just be better off buying
two sets and having a spare IR transmitter)?

My favourites were Nascar Heat and WWII Fighters. You will find lots of
annoyances with those glasses and just about any game. The problem is that
anything that is 2D on the screen will force you focus on a seperate plane
from the 3D. The games need to have everything in 3D graphics to work really
well, including text.

I never managed to make GPL work. Too much non 3D stuff on the screen.
The best racing game I found in 3D was Rally Championship 2000.
Narrow rally stages in the woods look very good. There is a corner on
one of the stages where spectators take pictures in the evening (blitz) and
the result is amazingly "live".

But, the text in the avionics isn't. You will find it a pain to try and read
with those glasses on. It's best to use them with WWI/II flight sims because
you don't need to have your head down in the cockpit so much.
I hear these things will make you up-chuck if you wear them for more than 30

Takes a bit getting use to focusing 'into' ones monitor. The glasses
only seem to work well in very few games. Most games render the 3D
objects fine but the 2D hud info stuff is often seen as double and
really messes with they eyes. When the game works great with the glasses
its an amazing thing, and when the game sucks with the glasses is like a
visual razor blade infested enema.

If your monitor can support only 100Hz (50Hz per eye) then you'll
be hurtin'. My glasses support the following refresh rates:
100, 112, 120, 140, and 150 Hz ... You get half of this per eye. At 100Hz
(50 per eye) you wouldn't be able to stand 15 minutes without getting
extremely dizzy. But at 150Hz (75 per eye) you could go a good 45 minutes
without irritation. I have to turn down the res to 800x600 so my monitor
can also display at 150Hz, and it's not too bad. Doesn't seem flickery at
all, though it is more irritating than without the glasses.

I'm not very knowledged in the area of 3D glasses. Why is it half the

The way it works is two pictures are drawn on the screen, with different
perspectives. During one refresh of the monitor, the image meant for the
left eye is shown, and during the next refresh, the image meant for the
right eye is shown. The glasses themselves will flicker in sync with the
monitor, so when the image meant for the right eye is being shown, the glass
in front of the left eye is polarized (becomes completely black) ... and so
on. In essence, each eye is switching on/off at half the rate of the
monitor's refresh rate.

for that? The max refresh rate is only 100 at 1280x1024 using my GF2
DDR, the monitor spec is higher than 100...
As far as I can tell only the Asus 21.81a drivers allow for refresh rates of
higher than 120Hz. The nVidia eStereo drivers only go up to 120Hz, and
crash for that matter, so they truly suck. The Asus drivers work great, and
go up to 150Hz at 800x600 on my monitor, but at 1024x768 my monitor's max
resolution is 100Hz, so I stick to 800x600 and enable fsaa to compensate for
the lower res.
