Flame warIs WSC vaporware? Info blackout frustrates fans

Cyril Ma asked whether the West brothers' World Sports Cars was vaporware. Jan Verschueren insisted the developers owed nobody anything and that an information stop was in effect, while Andre Warringa and others wished for status updates. The thread devolved into arguments, including David G Fisher mocking Jan's word 'bagatellise' and a spat between Fisher and EldredP.

WSC? vapourware??? ahven't seen an update for ages.
The West brothers don't owe us as a whole and you in particular anything. Not a game, not information, not a damn thing. -'k? Whether or not WSC will see the light of day is uncertain at the moment. There is an information stop in effect, so we just don't know for certain either way. It is, however, not vapourware. It does exist in some unfinished shape or form and this form does represent a substantial investment on the part of the West brothers (both financial and in man-hours). It's not up to anyone to bagatellise this commitment because they cannot control their impatience. Jan. =--- "Pay attention when I'm talking to you boy!" -Foghorn Leghorn. Nothing, I just got annoyed at the same old simple question coupled to the same old insinuation. 4th time in two days in the perhaps 5% of total RAS posts I read. I don't know if the Wests give a rats arse about this type of comment so their effect on the release are, again, unknown. I can only assure you I wouldn't much care for them if I was in their shoes. As for my life, there's enough of it to prevent me from spending as much time on my sim hobby as I would like, thank you very much. Well, if whoever is doing the stopping is listening, damn well unstop it! No-one's expecting reams of information - but nothing at all is over the top. Estimated release date, maybe a programmers diary, some screenies.. at one point they were so close to the community, chris even came to our lan party in holland for two days to tell us all about wsc and to get feedback from the community, and now we haven't heard a thing for months. Rumors here, rumors there, but no info directly from the West Brothers. I wish them all the best in the development of WSC, but they know how anxious the community is looking forward to WSC, and surely they must understand that the information stop is annoying for us, and you can't blame people for asking about the current status of WSC - even though they should check RAS more regularely to see its being asked every day :) Andre

What does bagatellise mean? As you know, I'm rather stupid and I couldn't find it in the American Heritage Dictionary. You should use a real English dictionary instead of American English...in which case you would find out bagatelle means a trifling sum...therefore to bagatellise (sic) would likely mean to trivialise. However much you might want to see the above things - I can assure you that Chris and Tony probably want to show you them just as much - but they cant - end of story. We've already seen more screenies, movies and interviews than any other title - to whats the problem anyway? Doug

Ooops... a gallicism. If my old English teacher reads this post I'm dead meat!! ;-) In fact both the noun and the verb are gallicisms in my language (Dutch) too. A bagatelle is something of little importance, something one mustn't take into account. So to bagatellise is to overlook importance in order to be able to ignore. You must of not read this thread completely. Neither of us knew waht bagatellise meant, right? We both asked Jan to explain. All I did in my reply to you was copy and paste ymenard's response to my question to Jan. I replaced "DGF" with "Eldred". It was a joke. I think Eldred understands now. David G Fisher "Ryan" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:PXhR7.3396$[email hidden]... > What exactly is your problem? David, It "sounded" quite serious, I can see how it could be taken the wrong way. Actually I struggle to see how it can be taken the "right way". I guess thats the problem with written text, hard to see the emphasis. Ash "David G Fisher" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:M1uR7.298889$[email hidden]...

When you consider that messages don't always hit your newsgroup server in the correct order, you often see an 'answer' before the original question. So yes, I saw your statement before I was Frank's. Still don't think it's funny, though. Everyone in this group knows that you and Frank don't like each other. Why do you have to continually draw attention to it, and draw others into it? When I get accused of things, I tend to defend myself if they are untrue. You recently accused me of provoking negative responses from people by jumping into GPL threads and instigating. Through google.com, I gave you proof that wasn't true. I gave you some more proof in this thread in an unconventional way. Sorry you didn't get the point. In Danish the word is "bagatellisere" from "bagatel" from French. So a word easily understood by most Europeans, who speak several languages, and by Canadians, is the source of a minor flame war. You did it again a few weeks ago, but who's counting? :) -- Pat Dotson
I just gave a short opinion on why Papyrus shouldn't make GPL2. I didn't try to instigate. :-o David G Fisher "Pat Dotson" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > > > David G Fisher wrote: > > > > > >jumping into GPL threads and instigating. Ubi is helping papyrus patch the tire model in GPL. When they get that sorted out, they'll finish the F1RC patch. The former is needed MUCH more than the latter.
