Appreciated. Although I still think it's bloody stupid that you have to fix
it in the first place. Why don't it just WORK..!

So, the rule seems to be: set the centre value for each pedal to be one

the range is 0 -> 100, set the centre at 1, if it's 63 -> 0, set the centre

This sim has now taken GPL's crown IMO.

DXTweak fix for F1 2001 pedal problems
Richard Beckett's fix for F1 2001 pedal problems, using DXTweak to recentre the pedal axis values, was reposted and discussed. Users asked whether it worked under Windows 2000/XP or affected other games; Pat Dotson said it did not affect N4 or GPL and that settings persist only if controller IDs stay the same. ACT Labs users had mixed results, and a later official patch was said to fix split-axis issues.

Anyone know how to make this work in Win2000 or XP ? I want to get
rid of that WinME partition I need ONLY for F1 2001.

Does this tweak affect other games using the MSFF? I'd like to try it,
but I drive everything.

Guys,
I don't care about the credit for this. Someone else gave me the idea, and I
came up with the values, but I think this needs a new thread to get the
information out to those who need it.
I have an MSFF gameport version, but I'm sure this will work for any other
controllers with the same problem.
I have set the pedals to split axes, but then F1 2001 has a huge deadzone on
the pedals - the wheel is fine. The pedals don't do anything until they are
50% depressed.
Well, I say deadzone, but actually it's not. I used the deadzone tweaker and
it made no difference. Anyway, if it was a deadzone problem, why is the
wheel OK?
I ran DXTweak, and found that the pedals sit at a value of 63, and this
reduces to 0 as they are pressed.

What is the settings that you used in the dxtweaker. I have 3 different
settings, min center and max.. I tried messing with the settings and f**ked
it all up...

It doesn't affect N4 or GPL. That's all I've tried it with
since changing the values with DXtweak months ago.

Ahh, if the settings aren't permanent I can reboot if they do cause
problems with another program.

too! Because Act-Labs makes decent hardware. But, with a company that
makes crappy hardware like Thrustmaster they have a great software like
Thrustmapper. With thrustmapper you can change the values of the axis and
link them to specific games. I wish Act-Labs would provide some decent
software for their great products. A program like thrustmapper would make a
lot of these type of problems a lot easier to solve.

Don't worry about messing up the settings - simply exit DXTweak, and reboot.
If you look at the raw values, you can see what each pedal is set at when
not pressed. With my MSFF gameport this is 63 for both pedals.
Press a pedal all the way down (you may want to do this slowly, so you can
see the values changing, to identify the correct box), and see what the raw
value changes to. My MSFF goes down to 0 on both pedals.
Then, in the boxes on the right hand side, you can see the values for each
axis, and you can adjust the minimum, center, and maximum values.
With my MSFF the minimum is 63, the center is 31 and the maximum is 0.
Adjust the center value to be 62 for both, then click on close.
Job done - well, 'till you reboot, anyway. When you restart your 'puter,
you'll have to do it again.
Anyone know how to make the change permanent?

You have to make sure that your control configuration doesn't
change. If after re-boot, windows thinks nothing has changed
in your controller ID's it keeps the DX tweak settings.
For instance, I have an ACT Labs Force RS wheel with the
ACT Labs performance pedals. They show up as two separate
devices. The pedals always show up on ID #1 after a reboot.
At first, I kept changing the order to put the wheel first,
because all my sims are configured that way. Everytime I
rebooted after changing ID's, DXtweak settings were lost.
I finally just left the pedals on ID#1 and the wheel on #2,
then re-configured controls in all my sims. After that,
I've never had to reset DXtweak.
Good luck,
Pat Dotson

DXtweak allows you to clear all calibration data and
start over. I think this clear all control devices,
so you have to go back and add your wheel back or
whatever.

It does work with ACT Labs stuff. I have a Force RS wheel
with performance pedals, and it works fine.

Strangely, I tried to do this pre and post patch using dxtweak with
non-ff ms wheel and it alternately has no effect or, depending on the
temperature and barometric pressure, cause the X-axis (which I don't
even touch) to start misbehaving.
A REAL fix would be a friggen patch from ISI. I can't believe that
someone released a racing game in the year 2001,
simulation/arcade/whatever, that doesn't properly support split-axis
controllers. If I didn't have to change my pedal mode to single-axis
everytime I wanted to play F1 2001 I'd probably play it more than once
every 2 weeks.
Jason
Well, maybe It's like I said. It could be the difference in operating
systems. What DX version do you run Pat?

The recently-released patch (www.easportsf1.com) sure solved my split-axis
problems. Perhaps you need to reinstall your game?
