(...and who gives a shit about your impressions anyways, eh?:)
I was turned on to this group by a fellow journalist.
I figured I was smart enough to keep my mouth shut since I was out of my
league.
It's hard to see sometimes when you grind day in and day out at something.
Outside looking in:
FIRST OFF: Never, ever install any version of XP. I was flabbergasted. What
an appalling piece of shit this must be for you guys
SECOND: The discussion here and the participants pretty much exceeds every
other newsgroup I have ever witnessed on Usenet. You have a special
community here. Work hard to maintain that. It's as rare as an Unicorn. It
will be mentioned in the mainstream press. At least you'll know the source.
Bravo, guys. It's a very special thing.
FINALLY: When are you guys ever going to realize that DETHKARZ was the
greatest racing game of all-time??
:-)
Just a quirk of mine. I just love the game and have donated a couple
marriages to it.
OK .. now that I've lost all credibility, I'll move back to lurker mode.
Great newsgroup. Just fantastic.
An avid fan now ..
Lurker's impressions of r.a.s. and Windows XP jokes
A journalist who had lurked for two weeks posted tongue-in-cheek impressions of the group's habits and obsessions, including warnings against XP. Replies defended Windows XP's stability, shared nostalgia for Dethkarz, and counted how often the phrase 'it's no GPL' had appeared on r.a.s. via Google.

Great post. Absolutely marvellous etc...etc...
First: What's the problem with Windows XP ?

Actually, it was a pretty good arcade game. I really loved the sense of
speed, and the way the physics acted on the cars. It was similar in style
to WipeoutXL.

For me at least, it's not so much the software itself as Microsoft's
attitude - John elsewhere in this thread puts it in a nutshell. I'm
sticking with Win98SE for as long as I can, and if XP is still the best
Windows on offer when I eventually have to change, then...

10.0. Everything else works better and I wouldn't go back. Symantec won't
patch it either, you have to buy 10.5 or you are out of luck. Now, that's
the kind of company attitude I despise ...

There you go :-)
I must admit that once I found out about the V5 drivers for XP I just
had to try it myself, my brother has been running XP for a while on his
PC and we've seen very little trouble with it, I haven't had a chance to
test many games so far, but both "Return to Castle Wolfenstein" and
"Rally Trophy" works very well so far, and yes, it's very very stable,
although I can't OC my CPU as much as I could with 98SE, but those days
are almost over for me anyways so I don't consider that much of a
drawback really
Like I said in another thread, if I had a fully working 98SE I probably
wouldn't go out and buy XP, but if I had to pay for a Windows license at
this point anyway.......

No it's really not GPL.
Of course GPL is no Googlo-o-tron either.

Service Pack 1? Already?
What, so the original release of XP was so bugged they had to release a
service pack already?
Good ol' Microsoft, don't you just love em!!

They probably should, at least there would be an increase in performance
with each driver release. Unlike MS which seems to open a new security
hole and problem with each service pack/fix. Look at Windows ME.. the
worst patch for Win95 to date! <VBG>
Or better yet, maybe they should form a union so there will be no more
patches or drivers of any kind to ever worry about! That's probably what
3dfx did... ;P
