Great lookin' pedals!

The original manufacturer is no longer making them.

Who has 295 to spend on pedals alone? It's great to see that Ball Racing
has finally updated their web page. Are these pedals really shipping now or
must we wait another year?

Evidently not you otherwise you wouldnt take offense to the price. Who has
295 to spend on a GF3 graphics card (they were a lot more than that at one
point) or 295 on a decent P4 CPU, or perhaps a couple of large hard drives,
or a good monitor. For a serious sim racer - when taking into cosideration
as part of a rig - they're actually no more expensive than many components
of a decent PC.

My point is this... 295 == $425. That's (2) P4 processors, or (1.5) GF3 or
(1) GF3 when they were first released. That's 1 gigabyte of RAM or (2) 120
gigabyte harddrives. So the pedals are actually quite a bit more expensive
than components in a decent PC. That's a hell of a lot of money and its
just for the pedals. I spent $500 on my wheel and pedals. 100% steel with
3 top hinged pedals. Do I have $425 that I could use to buy pedals? Many
times over. But's that's not really my point. $425 is quite a bit for just
for the pedals.

Who has > 295 to spend on a GF3 graphics card (they were a lot more than that atYes they're shipping. Just received my upgrade today :-) My opinion so
far?....WOW, what a first class high quality product. Pedals are so
adjustable I've been able to get just the perfect set up for me.
Pedal to pot actuation is gear driven, and the springs are enclosed in a
cylinder so that when you apply pressure it is compressing the springs,
rather than pulling on them.
This pedal unit stands head and shoulders above anything I've tried before,
and that includes my son's TSW unit and my ECCI CDS 4000.
Here's a list of features from their website.
a.. Extruded aluminium structure for maximum strength but still
lightweight
The rake angle and pedal travel have both macro and micro adjustments so
that whatever race car environment you wish to create, you can.
b.. The pedal head spacing is adjustable so that you can create the
perfect heel and toe set up for you.
c.. Authentic brake, throttle and clutch feel and easily modified so it is
just right for you.
d.. Floor or overhead pedal mountable
Fully compatible for overhead mounting with our Race Frame Pro chassis
e.. Self calibrating (no more Windows calibration required)
f.. Compatible with all BRD Sim steering controls
g.. USB compatible interface
h.. Future proofed design and software architecture
i.. Precision potentiometers
j.. Suitable for race driver training
k.. Carbon fibre footplate on 2 pedal version
l.. Modular parts for easy servicing
m.. Tool kit supplied
n.. Performance Guarantee - if this system does not help to improve you
Sim racing performance just return the product within 90 days for a full
refund.

They're a niche product, even more niche than your 500 dollar wheel.
The company makes a top quality, high-end product that isn't going to
sell to a huge market. They're not doing it for free, so somebody is
going to have to absorb their R&D, overhead and manufacturing costs.
Any, and I mean ANY hobby you get into has someone doing something
like this... There are $10,000 mini bikes, $1800 pellet guns, and
$6,000 bicycles.
If you're questioning the price, they're not made for you, period.
I actually can't justify that expense either, if it matters.
Sim racing is a sideline, not a primary hobby, so my money gets spent
elsewhere. My limit is a Wingman Momo. Pretty low end here, but if I
told a non-simmer what I spent on it, they'd think a $200 plastic
steering wheel was absurd.
Perspective is a funny thing, eh?

Haha! Very true! My friends laughed at me when i bought my $100 Thrustmaster
T2 some 4 years ago. "A hundred bucks? For a wheel? For your computer?
You've lost it." You should have heard what they said when i paid close to
600 for my TSW2. lol.

Well, it all depends on how much you're using your gear doesn't it, at
the time when I made my wheel and bought these pedals to go along with
it, I raced sims more hours pr day than I care to think about now :-),
and having had close to 2 years of (almost) trouble free racing, it has
been worth it to me
I've changed one spring in that time, and as usual it went 5 mins before
qual started, took me less than 2 mins to change the spring due to the
fact that the unit is constructed by an enthusiast who knows that these
things happen, and it will serve me almost indefinitely by the looks of
things, still no play, rattles or squeaks, I do need to change the pots
now though
But if you can't justify the expense, you can't, it's as simple as that
really, I'm living in a country where prices are generally quite high on
stuff like this, a basic Logitech FF wheel is over 120 dollars, so a
couple of hours work on the wheel and a couple of hundred dollars on the
best pedals you can get for "reasonable" money was a good investment for
me having just changed the bungee chord, springs and pots on my TM
Nascar PRO wheel for the umpteenth time....:-)

Yeah, imho, they're as good as they look, I especially appreciate the
dual spring setup on the brake pedal which effectively makes the pedal
pressure sensitive rather than positional, which makes all the
difference in sims which models locking wheels, Nigel is a GPL
enthusiast.....:-)
