Larry (The Other Larry) 01 Jan 2002 05:02 UTC#144115
Originally I had indicated that engine overheating and break-downs appeared to be disabled with the rest of the damage. I was incorrect. It does appear that overheating, and engine damage, is modeled, but it's kind of wacky. I've not been able to determine a consistent water temp reading for ok, and not ok. Anyone else seeing this ? -Larry
Hi Larry, N4 gives me engine damage sometimes in offline Testing Session although damage is disabled. It seems to be intermittent rather than reproduceable, and therefor I think it's not a feature, but unintentional (to avoid that ugly 3-letter word <g>) Achim "Larry (The Other Larry)" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:wpbY7.15581$[email hidden]... > Originally I had indicated that engine overheating and break-downsappeared

I haven't looked enough at it...but I did blow an engine during a 1 lap qualifying run at Richmond. dave henrie "Larry (The Other Larry)" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:wpbY7.15581$[email hidden]... > Originally I had indicated that engine overheating and break-downsappeared

I think you are right. :) But it's not a gub, it's a feature :) -Larry "Joachim Trensz" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:a0s6vv$ml2qa$[email hidden]...

I just blew up twice in practice with 45% tape at Atlanta. It _looks_ to me like NR2002 may be basing this off of oil temp instead of water temp. I'm still a bit confused as to what, exactly, is going on here. -Larry "Dave Henrie" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:rplY7.479$dK4.5657@rwcrnsc52...

Weird, I get engine damage and I can reproduce it by holding down the clutch and gunning it until the water temperature hits the limit displayed on the gauge, at which point a nice stream of black smoke pours from the motor and it dies. I think that, even with damage enabled, there isn't a definite 'above this water temp you'll blow the motor' line but rather an 'above this water temp the odds of inducing motor damage increases' line. Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don't. At least that's my guess (would have to talk to Mr. Kaemmer, I suppose, to know for sure). Actually it is a feature, and if you right-click on the damage option you'll see it explained in the pop-up help that even when damage is disabled it is still possible to get blow your engine from abuse such as overreving or overheating. - Eric You can still "Joachim Trensz" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:a0s6vv$ml2qa$[email hidden]... > N4 gives me engine damage sometimes in offline Testing Sessionalthough > damage is disabled. Err... that should have read "...it is still possible to blow your engine..." or "...it is still possible to get engine damage...". I seem to have combined the two. =) - Eric "Eric Busch" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:a0trdd$b9l$[email hidden]... > Actually it is a feature, and if you right-click on the damage option > you'll see it explained in the pop-up help that even when damage is > disabled it is still possible to get blow your engine from abuse suchas > overreving or overheating.
Hi Jason, maybe I'm just not patient enough for such empiric studies ;-) Achim "jason moyer" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

Hi Eric, thanks for the info! Right click in N4? Darn, why don't I ever RTeffingM ;-) Achim "Eric Busch" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:a0trdd$b9l$[email hidden]...

Yep, the way you said it, a decent Freudian could have started speculating as to what you were really thinking about at the time when you wrote that ;-) Achim "Eric Busch" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:a0trpb$d3s$[email hidden]...

Yes, it is repeatable. What doesn't make any sense is the line between blow up, and no blow up. It doesn't seem to be necessarily tied to the temp guage, like it is in N4. It _seems_ to be more tied to the oil temp guage in this one. I don't think we'll really understand this until the release version is out and the manul explains what the hell is going on. Who knows. It may not even be fully modeled yet. -Larry "jason moyer" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...
