Not sure if anyone else has already figured this out, but I will post it here just in case not. If you have looked at the F1 2001 GT Mod you are probably aware that the installation instructions require you to edit your config.ini file in such a way as to make it impossible to drive the F1 cars. Of course you could create two different files - the original and the edited version - and swap them as necessary, but it turns out there is an easier way. I searched through the F1_2001.exe file and found that it accepts a command line argument of the form "config=<filename>". So what I did was copy the config.ini file to a new file, named it "configGT.ini", and made the changes to that file instead. I then created a new shortcut called "GT 2000" and gave it the following command line: C:\GAMES\F12001~1\F1_2001.exe config=configGT.ini You will of course need to substitute your own path to the F1_2001 executable file. Worked perfectly, as far as I can tell. I only ran it briefly and only in Test mode, but everything appeared to function properly. So now I have two shortcuts, one for F1 2001 and one for the GT 2000 mod, and I don't have to do anything special to switch between them. HTH, Hal

So what do you think of the mod? David G Fisher "Haqsau" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:a1lclm$rkslu$[email hidden]...

It runs fine, reacts well, but if I even attempt to brake and turn at the same time, it just gets really loose. Oh, and I can't get it to find the GT setups, but I assume I must have done something wrong there....(hmm, maybe these two things are related..)
Load the default setups for the track your driving. They should just say "Italy", "Great Britain", etc. The Vipers' will oversteer while turning in and braking more than say, the Ferrari 360. The physics are being fine tuned by htis individual http://members.rogers.com/nwalkz/ and will hopefully fix this. For now, after loading the setup, adjust the brake balance more towards the front (maybe 65/35) and then save it. AFAICT, this isn't oversteer, though, it's like the brakes lock, but I'm not putting anywhere near enough pressure on for that to be the case - more fiddling needed, I suspect.
They didn't lock in my testing after adjusting the brakes. On the 8th, new Porsches were made available at http://www.madfactory.racesim.net/f1/ They work fine now, and are probably the best handling cars in the mod. Mostly I like it. It's in need of a bit of fine tuning I think, but it's pretty damn good for a first release. I had some difficulty at first with the setups, but then realized it was loading my F1 setups. So I went in and deleted all the old F1 setups under my player name in the SaveGT directory, and things behaved a little better. I tried the Ferrari 550 and the Porsche 996. The Porsched felt great, the Ferrari felt terrible. Not that I would know what either one is like in real life, but I found it very difficult to control the braking distances in the Ferrari, and it also seemed to oversteer horribly at low speeds and push horribly at high speeds. I imagine much of that can be taken care of with setup. It also seems that the GT vehicles are more detailed than the F1's. It was no problem at the A1 Ring, but at Spa I had to turn down the vehicle cockpit detail level in order to get decent performance. Not sure what the problem was, because the frame rate counter stayed around 40, but it felt like it was running at less than 20 until I turned the detail level down. And that was with only me on the track. Anyway I'm glad you talked me into it. Lot's of fun, and I'm sure it will continue to be refined and expanded with time. Still kind of looking forward to an ALMS mod though. I really want to drive LMP's in this game. Regards, Hal "David G Fisher" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:JDK%7.369128$[email hidden]...
