Will ICR2 Rendition version run in native Win98?

I have been experiencing a problem running the Rendition version of CART Racing (ICR2) under Win98. I can get the program to run in MS-DOS mode just fine but for some reason it won't play in native Win98. The game either generates an invalid page fault or will display a black screen. Has anyone managed to get the game to run directly from Win98? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am using a Creative Labs V1000 Rendition card under Win98 (not the SE version). The card's driver version date is 8-5-1998 and was obtained from the Creative Labs website. Bob
The Rendition version is a Dos only program It will NOT run in Windows and it will not get any 3d acceleration unless you can get it to run in dos with a Rendition vid card which you have but running in windows will not work. There is a win95 patch and a complete win95 version on the CART Racing CD but that is NOT 3d. dave henrie "Bob Leore" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

If the DOS version works why shouldn't the DOS Rendition version also work? Any ideas? Bob
Because of the arcane way the Rendition 3d api operates. You just won't have any luck getting it going in a windows enviroment. I don't know the details, I just know from personal experience and the tons of posts from long ago. Here is something that might give you insight.... Try and take a screenshot while using the Rendition3d version. I think you'll be just as frustrated. Can't be done. I think there's no need of 3D acceleration. I'm playing with the Win (converted to) version of ICR2 at about 170-280 FPS without 3D acceleration, all graphics 'ON'.

It's not so much the acceleration, but the fact that you get 16-bit colors (vs 8-bit) and anti-aliasing that makes the standard 640x480 resolution look *so* much better. And all of this with five year old technology. Too bad anti-aliasing isn't a well-executed feature on most cards today. :( "But in a way, fear is a big part of racing, because if there was nothing to be frightened of, and no limit, any fool could get into a motor car and racing would not exist as a sport." -- Jim Clark

This again is strange because I succeeded in getting three Rendition-only video games enclosed with the card (Creative Labs 3D Blaster PCI) to run in a DOS box. If some Rendition DOS games will run in a DOS box why not CART Racing? Bob

Bob, there are tons of DOS games that will not run in a DOS box on a windows machine. If you have to ask this question, not to be rude, but then you need to do a little more research and learn a little bit more. Its just a fact that not all games will run in DOS windows. -- Biz "Don't touch that please, your primitive intellect wouldn't understand alloys and compositions and,......things with molecular structures,....and the....." - Ash Bob Leore <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > "Dave Henrie" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:<H7W18.4063$ba5.37638@rwcrnsc53>... > > Because of the arcane way the Rendition 3d api operates. I pestered the 3dfx customer support guys UMERCIFULLY to get ICR2 working with FSAA. After about 2 weeks, they caved and took a look at the dos and windy versions. Came back asking me if those were pixels on the walls...Answer yes...2d game. (boy did I feel stooopid...) Ya can't use FSAA when there isn't any polygons to smooth. However, the Rendition3d did have AA built in...not full screen but it did a fine job smoothing most of the edges. dave henrie
