I am wanting to get into longer racers using pit strategy, but in practice
for whatever reason I can't seem to get a pit request to take.
I mapped the pit request function in the controllers option to one of my
buttons on my Momo, but I never get a pit crew.
What's the trick to pitting in F12001?

Don;
You hit the S key(or your map does), and nothing happens when you pit? Do
the lights come on on your wheel?

Seems to work OK
during the race itself, though. Only problem is that I take a major frame
rate hit when the boys are standing there waiting for me to come in.
Pitting really does add another dimension to the race. One time, I neglected
to pay close enough attention to my "crew ready" indicator, and failed to
notice that my team-mate had come in for HIS stop. Into the pits I cruise,
only to find that I have to drive right through and try again next lap. DOH!

No, I haven't seen the lights come on the wheel. I have only been trying it
in practice, maybe it doesn't work in practice?

And hope you're not pitting in front of a following AI car; they'll smack
the hell out of you :)

problem and get lapped, then get going again even if you are faster than the
leaders, you'll get a blue flag warning as soon you pass a front runner.
Unless you immeadiately break contact, you keep getting blue flag warnings
until you have to pit to answer a black flag.
Usually if your are catching ONE car, you can pass and continue before
getting the black flag penalty. But if you catch a line of cars, then it's
almost impossible to dispatch the cars ahead of you before the blue flag
warnings hit you from a car you have recently passed.

Hmm...how would that work in a REAL F1 race? I'm guessing they'd do the same
thing...

No if you were OBVIOUSLY faster, i.e. re--catching and PASSING the
leaders, then they wouldn't blue flag you. Of course the big-snot...er Big
Shot drivers might be upset if you got interjected into their little fight,
but we all know there is no on-track racing in F1 so that shouldn't be a
problem.
