Poster apologises to NASCAR fans for redneck jibes

jlohman apologised for past comments calling NASCAR a redneck sport after meeting a female NASCAR fan. The thread became light-hearted ribbing about what women can do to a man's outlook, Southern stereotypes and a riddle.

I would like to apologize for the comments that I have made in the past, about it being a red neck sport, and such. I recently meet a young lady that is a Nascar fan, it caught me by suprize. She is not what I would consider a red neck at all. So, I will try to be more open minded, and maybe even watch a complete Nascar race (with the sound off, I can't stand the, um, southern annoncers). I would try to talk her into watching a F1 race, but I think she would find it rather boring, after watching Nascar.

Thank you, Mr. Lohman.........NASCAR fans are no more all rednecks....than F1 fans are all rich, stuck-up and stupid. Of course, a predominance of each among both groups is quite apparent. Congratulations on meeting a "young lady" who apparently has you thinking seriously (about her). That just doesn't happen every day to any of us. That's really cool. It's not that I can't stand them because they are Southern, I am from Austin TX. It's just that they have that "good ole boy" style. It's just not my thing, just my opinion. If you like them, fine, I'm sure they do an outstanding job covering the races. I shouldn't have used the word Southern, sorry.

She does, but she's currently dating her brother. ;)
You have to understand that most of us died-in-the-wool NASCAR guys are rednecks at heart. If you were to meet me in my line of work, you'd likely see a well dressed (no Armani, but I do fancy Brooks Brothers) clean cut looking 30 something guy earning 6 figures and own a home that did not roll to its location. Come Sunday I will be promptly plopped in front of the 65" wide screen cranking NASCAR through the Dolby 5.1 in my DEJ tee shirt and shorts... :) (prolly knocking back a few of DEJ's sponsor's products too). My NASCAR following does spill into my real life as I am a Chevy guy, both as a fan and a 3 Chevy owner ( the wife's ride, my commuter and work vehicle are all Bowties) Why can this be? Because I was born in the 'home' state of the sport (NC, live there still), have followed NASCAR since the mid 70's and actually made a little something of myself in the mean time. I just didn't get all snobbery when the money started coming in, stayed true to what I liked even if it is a 'redneck' thing. Redneck is somewhat of a compliment where I come from anyway...LOL Good luck with the little lady, she can't be that bad if she likes NASCAR. My wife has it worse than I do since I introduced her to it in 1990 (when we married). jlohman <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:1KA58.34433$[email hidden]...
