I bought a seat for my car (1964 sprite) which is a low-back bucket, perfect
for the GPL cockpit (small, too).

I use the Classic with no headrest. IIRC it was cheap - A$90 a few years
ago.

I'm preparing to make the move from a mere Grand Prix Legends geek to a GPL
Uber-Geek and am quite interested in making a faux-cockpit to further my
transition. Has anyone else here taken this step? If so, I'm interested in
what you built and if you have any pictures/plans online that I could look
at.
I'm certainly not afraid to just do this myself, but I figured that SOMEONE
else here must have decided that sitting at a desk playing GPL just wasn't
as satisfying as sitting in a cockpit would be - and I'd rather not have to
reinvent the wheel (so to speak) while starting this project.
FWIW, I have a Logitech Momo wheel that I'd like to integrate into the
design.... I found Mark Huxford's site at
http://www.xs4all.nl/~pidi/huxworld/huxworld2.htm interesting (even slightly
inspiring!) however I'd be more interested in any GPL-era designs that
you've all come up with!
I'm also at a bit of a loss as to what to do for a seat as I'm not keen on
dropping $300 for a real MOMO seat or anything crazy like that.
Thanks in advance...
-Mark
PS: Let's not tell my girlfriend about this, okay? I think this is an idea
I will have to 'ease' her into...
here is an aussie design..

Have a look at this article by Kev Schofield on my website:
http://www.racesimcentral.com/features/kevscockpit/kevscockpit1.shtml
It tells how he made himself a cockpit for about $100.

A buddy of mine got a seat from a '93 RX-7 for about $30 from a
scapyard. Fabric was a little worn, but "your butt really can't
tell"... Can't beat the price.
Just tell your girlfriend it is much less expensive and much safer
than racing real vehicles. I have to remind my wife every once in a
while... things like: "well Honey, it's either this, or I might have
to start racing my 'Lude in SCCA" tend to make her see my point of
view.
GOOD LUCK,
Gerald

I think this is an idea > I will have to 'ease' her into...Some cool links posted here, I like racing and flight sim's and found this
link: http://www.62ndff.onthenet.com.au/projects/projects.htm for a
collapsable cockpiut design for use at netmeets. While not quite a driving
cockpit I'm sure it could be modified slightly to suit your purpose of a
driving sim cockpit.
