Wow....I have only read the review for this and am blown away. How many more sophisticated and better than commercial release quality mods can one community produce!?!?! Apparently we owe a special thanks to Doug Arnao for the physics stuff...I still can't begin to repay him for all his N4 set-up contributions! Looking VERY forward to this download. Me too! I really am beginning to believe the future of our beloved sims is more in the hands of the sim community than the manufacturers. Of course they probably need a base to work from - for that reason alone I mourn the lack of GPL72. However, with a fully tweakable engine like F1-2001 who knows what they can do. Having said that how long before we get a "home made" sim of equal quality to the professional developers? This does leave us with the multiplayer issues though. How far has F1Relay progressed? (not tried it myself). After the wow of hooking up GPL for the first time in 98 the lack of progress by the professional developers *is* an area of disappointment (for whatever imposed reasons or lack of development) The capabilities of the sim community is astonishing. The exponential output for GPL has truly given it an up to date quality status for a 98 sim. The *quality* mods for F1-2001 in next to no time has been truly remarkable. Outstanding. Cheers Tony

Having said that how long before we > get a "home made" sim of equal quality to the professional developers? www.racer.nl Ruud's physics are not yet complete but Racer is already fantastic fun and is showing *great* potential, and the "home made" Racer car models are (IMO) better than in ANY other sim or driving game available on ANY platform (yup, better than GT3!). Check out Stecki's fantastic Celica GT/TRD and Minis, and Strat's Evo VI and Xsara WRC. Some of these may be familiar as conversions for F1 2001, but there are a whole load more extremely pretty models on the way from the Racer community. Keep an eye on this one :0) Jim

The GT mod (which I love) only exists because of the tremendous amount of fantastic work by the developer/publisher. Graphics, physics, sound, tracks, etc. 99.99% of what you see in the GT mod is possible only because of the developers/publishers. > This does leave us with the multiplayer issues though. David, I question just how finished PC games are these days (in general). I appreciate what ISI have done, yet the mods from the sim community to sort out the AI, add rain, tweak the physics etc. in such a short time have been remarkable. My comment refers to whether the developers can afford to take the time out to achieve the same, or whether F1-2002 will also benefit immensely from attention by the sim community. > > Of course they probably need a base to work from - for thatreason alone > > I mourn the lack of GPL72. I appreciate the mention of GPL is a proverbial red rag, and that F1-2001 has proved immeasurably more editable in a couple of months than the last three years for GPL. BUT GPL72 may have offered an updated physics model and even improved net code (guess?) for the currently best on-line open wheel sim. No more than that. The second comment questions whether a "home grown" product like Racer can compete with ISI/Crammond/Papy/UBI in the future? My view is the knowledge available to create GT physics from an F1 engine could mean we are fairly close (speculation...) > > > This does leave us with the multiplayer issues though. I am not harping about about GPL here, simply that I expect improvement, and online capability is stuck at 98 levels from my view. I understand the reasons, however. Cheers Tony

Things might start happening pretty soon, we just need a little something to start the Racer snowball effect :-) Mikkel Gram-Hansen http://www.racesimcentral.com

I'd say about 80% in version 2 :-) Less than that if you rate physics as the most important component as we've produced 6 entirely different physics models, (not just variations on a theme as in the F1 implementation) one for each of the cars that... well, in about 3-4 hours you'll see what I mean. :-) Ian www.simbin.com "David G Fisher" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:L_E78.26003$[email hidden]...
