Is anyone using the MX400 64Mb on a PIII? Is it good enough for most sims, including GPL and F1 2001?

I have one and its adequate. I bought it because of my budget, couldn't swing the extra $50 for the GF3 Ti200 at the time. -- Biz "Don't touch that please, your primitive intellect wouldn't understand alloys and compositions and,......things with molecular structures,....and the....." - Ash .. <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > Is anyone using the MX400 64Mb on a PIII? It's still very playable, but it won't blow you away like, say, a GF3 Ti200 (which isn't *that* much dearer) I strongly recommend saving your pennies for one of those instead...(I wish I had) -- Damien Smith [email hidden] ICQ: 77028579 F1 2001 rank: +27.680
Brother Damien is correct. An MX is fine for GPL, but marginal for F12001 (and a lotta other latter-day games). A GF2 Ti would be better; probably a good match for a 1 gig Athlon. But to get any real satisfaction, go the extra yard and getta 1.3 Athlon (or even Duron) and a GF3 Ti. You won't be sorry. --Steve Smith "Damien Smith" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:a42nn5$1c3hkp$[email hidden]... > > Is anyone using the MX400 64Mb on a PIII? I was using a MX200 64Mb and with F1 2001 GT mod I kept having texture corruptions . With Geforce GTS 32Mb now fitted the FIA GT mod runs a lot quicker and without any corruptions at all . FPS after first corner is usually around 50-70 with 15-20 cars . My CPU is a XP1600+ Cheers A

I use the GeForce II MX400 32 meg on an ASUS A7V133-C board. And a 1.3 gig Thunderbird. In N4, using OpenGL I get 50 to 60 fps's on the start of a race with a full field and all the sliders all the way up. After the field thins out I get upwards of 70 fps's. That's at a 124 X 768 resolution. I have screen shots of the frame rates if there is any "Doubting Thomases" out there. ;-) Jim "rik zeppelin" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:3ya98.19627$[email hidden]... > > "Stephen Smith" <[email hidden]> wrote in message > news:D6998.54017$[email hidden]... > > Brother Damien is correct. I'll second this; with a 1.4 P4 rig. 32 meg MX 400 does just fine in all the games listed. Eats up various flight sims too. -John Jim Tester <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:a43dv0$92r$[email hidden]... > I use the GeForce II MX400 32 meg on an ASUS A7V133-C board. Jim, I don't doubt you one bit. I have a very similar rig (I only have a 1 gig T-bird) but I manage to get about 45-50 fps with everything maxed in N4 in the same resolution. Same card, same board, I also have the 1005c bios and the 4in1 chipset drivers installed (Both a must IMHO). I'm running my GF2 MX400 w/ the 23.11 drivers and stock clocks. However, my new Gainward GF3 ti200 128 mb card is in the mail =) That should help some with NR2002. I too have screenshots to back up my statements. I'm also running the 23.11 drivers, and stock clocks. I was wondering I should upgrade the BIOS. I hate messing with stuff that seems to be working ok. And what are the 4 in 1 chipset drivers? Do I get those at the ASUS site? Thanks... Jim "Glockenspiel" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

The 4in1 drivers are for the Via chipset. Go to http://www.viaarena.com/ and click on drivers. This is, of course, only if you are running the Via chipset. The bios are very easy to update. I was a bit anxious about doing it myself, but I printed out the instructions from the website and it went very smoothly. That solved some conflicts I was having with my mb and my SB Live value. But like you said, it's probably best to leave good enough alone. If you aren't having any problems, I would just leave it be. Hi Todd... I went to the via site and downloaded the 4 in 1 drivers and installed them. Might be a slight improvement, but not sure. One question I have is concerning the BIOS settings. Board is an ASUS A7V133-C Memory is 256Megs/PC133. And my CPU is and AMD 1.333 Tbird. But when I to the BIOS settings, I see that the: CPU Clock Multiplier is set it 10.0x CPU Frequency is set at 100 Mhz DRAM Frequencey is set at 100 Mhz. And a system test indicates that my CPU is only running at 1008 gigs. I'm a bit apprehensive about changing any of the settings in the BIOS because I don't know all that much about it. Is there any sites out there that will have instructions on how to do that? Or do any of you fine folks know how to do it? Thanks...
