Is there a patch for F1 Racing Championship?

Christian R. asked if Ubisoft had ever patched F1 Racing Championship. Replies said the long-promised patch never appeared, and the thread became a comparison with F1 2001, whose controller setup many found confusing despite its stronger force feedback. David G Fisher later tried NR2002 and wished Papyrus would offer a CART-style car, and Dave Henrie pointed to the CART Heat mod.

Hi, I thought I might give this game another try on my computer. I had some grapical problems under Win98SE and Geforce 2MX when I bought it last year. Does anyone know if there is a patch available for this game and where. Ubisoft does not seem to care much for the further development. Thanks Chris

I am sorry to have trapped into that. I will not mention this game again, and also not play... Still a waste of money and time... Thanks Chris Ashley McConnell wrote:

no patch as of yet but still VERY good game, I enjoy it MUCH more than F12001 especially with this SHITTY controller setup they have done in F12001, didn't try the Gt mod yet.... "Christian R." <[email hidden]> a crit dans le message de news: [email hidden]...

Gee, I look at your email address and can't help but think you have some sort of bias towards F1RC because it is done by a French company. F12001 makes F1RC look like an arcade game. No controller issues here either and it has the best FFB of any racing sim on today's market. Ubisoft thinks FFB is when you can feel the rumble strips and nothing else. Face it, Ubisoft screwed the customer royally on this title and I won't be bying F1RC2 because of it, no matter how good it might be.

The controller setup IS very shitty. F1 2001 was the first one that brought a discussion on RAS what the terms used in the controller menus actually mean, the FF settings are unclear (settings that work for one guy don't work for another guy with exact the same setup) and I, as do many more people, still have a major pedal deadzone in F1 2001 that I can't get rid of. And yes, I do know a thing or 2 about controller setup. Look at the number of posts on the High Gear forums about F1 2001 controller problems - controller setup in F1 2001 IS SHITTY! I'm ok now, thanks :) Andre

As we've discussed many times before, most people don't have a problem in my experience. Some people do however and that is a shame. The 'terms' used in the menu are totally obvious with the exception of the -100 to +100 strength, and even that is a simple case of try +ve setting and if it doesn't work for you, then try the -ve. Not exactly rocket science is it? The only other settings is a value between low and full. Not tricky either I would have thought. Look at the messing around needed in the GPL ff settings, and the myriad of text that has been written around that shroud of mystery. I read that the Momo wheel needed a negative force (discussions about the value are still being discussed) but now someone recommends me to use a positive value with the Momo. Guess what, with both settings my ff is shitty, but I don't know if that is because of the ve setting or because of 1 of all the other ff settings. >The only other settings is a value between low and full. But GPL is three years old, ff was quite new at the time, and once setup correctly GPL still offers one of the best ff. An example: Tonight I installed N2002. The controller setup took me LESS than a minute, and it worked PERFECT immediately, including the fantastic ff. It's cool that F1 2001 has so many options, but how come Papy games work so good right out of the box and other games need 2000 settings before it works right? My former post sounded a little bit pissed, but I am, because after all these discussions and all this experimenting, I still can't get the ff right and I can't get rid of the deadzone. If I was the only one who had this problem I wouldn't complain, but since 'many more' people have these problems, I will not accept a statement that F1 2001 has a 'simple and efficient' controller setup :) Andre

I believe DGF has the deadzone problem too? Yes. FF is great but the only way to get rid of the dead zone I have with my Ferrari wheel and XP is to use single axis. I know it isn't a great solution, but it's a hell of a lot better than the big dead zone. Forget trying to edit all the settings manually. Those aren't going to help at all if it's a problem between the drivers you are using with your wheel, and the game. Ian and I both had bad ff until we switched drivers and then it was great. Can you install newer drivers for your wheel? Re-install them? > An example: Tonight I installed N2002. Can you install newer drivers for your wheel? Re-install them? Nope.. there is only one driver that works perfect with the Momo (the latest version, the former beta versions still caused some problems with the wheel) and I don't have any problems in any of my other sims. Frankly I'm not willing to spend even more time on setting up my Momo in F1 2001, I really spend more than enough hours on this. I'll wait for the release of F1 2001 (in 3 months I believe) and pray that the controller problems are gone. >GPL never wanted to recognize my old T2 wheel which was a very popular wheel >when it was released. There are so many different controllers and systems out there, there are allways some devices that cause problems with certain games. Even windows has it's share of supporting some devices, even though they test windows with so many different types of hardware. It's the combination of different devices and drivers which causes the most problems I believe. Quite frankly F1 2001 is the only sim which I can't configure correctly. GP3 took me a couple of hours to get it right, I even needed a usermade util to get it working right, but at least I got it working. This is frustrating :-/ Andre >David G Fisher

How about a CLEAN reinstall of the drivers then? That's what I had to do with my wheel. Ian's right though about the in game settings being simple. It's just that if the game isn't working correctly with the drivers, then all of those settings (and the one's in the .plyr file become meaningless. I've spent A LOT of hours screwing with this game too so I know how frustrated it can be. I only say try a driver reinstall because it's even more frustrating if you never find the answer to the problems. David G Fisher
LOL. The only controller "issues" I've ever had with any race game is F1RC!! Todd "lane" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:a4iujo$ji24$[email hidden]...

Good suggestion. But - a couple of months ago I did a fresh reinstall of windows (and thus of all my drivers) and still had the problem. But windows is acting weird again lately (sigh) so I was allready planning a reinstall of windows (bigger sigh). I'll give f1 2001 another shot then.. Btw, any f1 2001 and momo owners reading this, what version of the Momo drivers are you using? Andre
I just did a quick search at HG under "momo drivers" and I read that 411c drivers are supposedly good, and that switching off dual axis gives full pedal control. You should also set the pedal sensitivity to 100%. But yup, selecting single axis gets rid of the deadzone. This makes it all a lot more playable, but it's a shame I can't drive with dual axis now.. Hope they put this on the 'bux to fix in f1 2002' list :-/ Andre

No errors. If I remember correctly, it wouldn't recognize the wheel, or it would see the wheel and pedals backwards. Did the same thing in the N4 demo. I would have to keep trying to calibrate over and over until it finally recognized it correctly. Andre If I recall, many people had problems with GP3 getting the controller calibration right, with split axes issues and certain wheels not being recognised. It's ironic isn't it that the 3 F1 sims with good ff, i.e. F1 2001, GPL and GP3, all have some sort of controller issue! Well, I can assure you thet I might be slightly biased against certain US reaction "We own the world" and so on, but I am definitely NOT pro-french, I think it's a good thing for the gaming industry that there are some strong EUROPEAN companies otherwise all we would have would be some NASCAR and CART (yes TRUSR85, CART !!!) games and I think that GENERALLY speaking typical "European" sports are better done by "European" gaming companies (rally and F1) and that nobody can beat SIERRA for NASCAR games... About the FFB in F1RC I have to TOTALLY disagree with you, with my beloved ACT LABS FORCE RS I can FEEL the car as I about to lose the rear, when you start to understeer exiting a corner (Tosa in Imola is great for that) and all the weight is on the back wheels and you keep on giving more throttle there is a point where you feel a little kick in the wheel ans you are just about to start losing the rear and the front suddenly "grabs".... Nowhere else (even not GPL) have I seen this, now I agree that in F1RC the FFB for crashing in the wall is NOT good, but I don't plan to crash in the walls as wallriding is really not a thing to do in a F1 sim. To finish between the difference F1RC-F12001....well.... I didn't find F1 2001 "nicer looking" than F1RC I cannot play F1 2001 with my ACTLABS, I didn't try to remove split axis, even if it work with split axis I don't WANT to play like this, is it F1 2001 or F1 1996 ? For online play they both suck, maybe 2001 is better than RC, but anyway, WHO can fight with VROC and GPL for online play ? The AI in RC really gets better after a while.... Bottom line is, F1RC is not the perfect F1 modern sim, but it's the nicest I have found, if F1 2002 is better then i'll switch, and although i am french and a long time Prost fan (I almost worked for them last year, SHIT !!!) I won't even try to defend Prost GP game which was REALLY a piece of crap... "lane" <[email hidden]> a crit dans le message de news: a4iujo$ji24$[email hidden]...

of course, one has to defend its "cultural" values.... Not joking this time I think it is easier for a US developper/programmer to do a "good" NASCAR sim then for a European one... Of course then it's easier for a european one with F1, rallye and truck racing for instance... I think I was running it through an Ensoniq sound card. Papy games were the only ones that gave me trouble with that T2 wheel. Apparently I wasn't alone. Andre guessed right, I didn't buy N4. I wonder how he knew? :-) I don't like NASCAR at all, although I did run it a few times at a friends house. Last night I even considered buying N2002 to check out the multiplay (that Coca Cola speedway sounds kind of cool), but then came to my senses. :-) David G Fisher "EldredP" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > In article <qjlb8.49432$[email hidden]>, "David GFisher" > <[email hidden]> writes: > > >No errors. I still love F1RC and agree with a lot of what you say. Can't wait to try F1RC2. I don't think there's a lot that seperates F12001 and F1RC. I don't think there's a lot that seperates F12001 and F1RC. AI does. If F1RC had AI that wasn't so prone to rear ending my car then I might actually like it. Situational awarenes in sims is poor so the AI must be made to not smack into my car if I should happen to brake a bit early - realistic or not. The first EA F1 release had AI that tended to do that too, but they soon fixed it with F1CS and F12001 and even released a patch for the first F1 sim to improve it. Ubisoft, on the other hand, took my money and dropped all support to make the game playable for me, even though they promised a patch last April - must have been April 1st. That's why I won't be buying F1RC2. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels that way either.

I think the F1 2001 controller setup sucks too, as do many other people. Most of us EVENTUALLY get it to work ok, but there seem to be a LOT more hoops to jump through in EA titles... :( Eldred -- Dale Earnhardt, Sr. R.I.P. 1951-2001 Homepage - http://www.umich.edu/~epickett GPLRank - under construction... I think John Bodin referred to "dancing on the edge" for F12001 which if I remember right related to your own viewpoint with F1RC. I'd go along with that. Like just about every one else I put F1RC on hold awaiting the promised patch. I still feel there is plenty of potential there, and also look forward to F1RC2. I'll admit to being as fickle as hell when it comes to racing sims - any loyalty or principles fly out the window if a better experience might be available! http://cartheat.bhmotorsports.com/ many of the old CPR tracks are being converted to Heat, and tracks like Road America run very well with the CART Heat mod. (I've been pestering them for Mid Ohio) I think there is close to a dozen road courses available now for the Heat mods. dave hernie

A CART sim from Papy.. now there's an idea.. :)) These stockcars feel quite boring in the beginning, untill you start to drive them on the limit.. but I guess that goes for every type of car.. Even my Seat Arosa (STOP LAUGHING) is fun when driving it on it's limits.. Andre
It doesn't have to be a complete sim. Just one car to use in practice and online. Don't you think someone there has probably made one if only as an experiment? David G Fisher "Andre Warringa" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

I am sure I read somewhere in the early development of GPL that the physics engine was designed in such a way that the physics values of other vehicles could be "fed in" to create new sims. Then it was the job of the graphics developers to do the rest. Never quite materialised as I hoped :-( One question - on Nascar weekends what other series run? Especially on the road courses! May be some scope for a Nascar approved addon. (E.g. at an F1 weekend there are many other races series - Touring cars, Porsches, shopping cars!, Historic etc.) Ever optimistic! Tony

So what was the controller problem you had with F1RC? I can't remember if I had any problems when I installed it. I haven't had time to play it much yet... Someone said to hold down the pedals while starting up F1RC to fix it but that never worked for me. I would just quit the 3D part of the game and re-enter until it would recognize it.
