I'm considering the purchase of a Racebase auto racing simulation cockpit
(http://www.racebasecockpit.com/index.html). Has anyone purchased one of
these? I've searched and Microsim seems to be about the only people making
a cockpit for around $200. Are there other cockpits I should consider?
I ordered the plans and built this,

It takes a little bit of time, but I really enjoyed it and it is a great
seat :)
All the best,
Ash

Microsim Racebase is about to release a new model: The Racebase R6 Mk
III (you cant see it on their website yet). I have a prerelease
picture of it though... you can see it at:

You might want to wait for this new model before perchasing one...
Racebase also recently have their own official simracing team: Team
Racebase. The website is at www.teamracebase.com (it might not work
due to router problems, if so there's a mirror at www.netrexgp.nl)

Can you comment on how it differs from the Rasebase R6 Mk II? It looks very
similar but includes additional adjustments for the pedals and steering
wheel.

This is I would assume a cheap and easy alterantive. I built my own out of
2x4's and a bucket seat. I had the seat and the wood cost me maybe $20
bucks.
Scroll down the page. At the bottom is says simulators.

Yet another here.

There are tons of choices and setups out there.
Group,
There are a zillion options out there. I built the RaceBase from plans, and
it cost me around $100 and a weekend's time, including plans.
Yes, I could have "designed" my own, but I never could have finished it in a
weekend. It's worth it to me to buy plans for $45 then follow these to build
a sim seat. What I have looks so good my wife doesn't even mind it sitting
in front of our TV ( I have to occasionally fold it up when company comes
over - all the guys want to do is drive!).
The choice is yours. The Racebase is foldable, adjustable (both the pedals
and the wheel are adjustable) and is cheap to make. Or you could just nail a
bunch of 2x4's together and hide in the basement. As I said, the choice is
yours. I'm sure there are lots of craftsmen out there who could develop a
sim seat from scratch, but my time is worth something ( I have over 20 years
experience as a hobby woodworker), and in the case of a sim seat, I'd rather
be racing than designing and building.
